BONGKONG" LEAGUE, 1ST DIVIRION.
NAVY. R.G.A.
This was the only first division match on Saturday, the Club being made to turn out a team owing to so many of their players being engaged in military duties,
The game opened in favour of the Gunners, and, in spite of the fact that they only had ten men-Talfourd failing to turn out remained in their favour nearly all the time. Small had hard: fine with a "header" soon after the commencement, and Clutterbuck al pút in a neful shot. At the other epdi Carviel, although only a few yards off goal, shot high over the bar, thus losing golden opportunity, Hutchingsen pit in a lovely centre, but it was not con verted. Caple stopped a couple of the Navy forwarda by some very quick foot work, and a rather weak kick-off by Dickenson enabled the sailors to force GUINET. It was not utilised, however, and the soldiers brought the ball up again and could not be cleared away from the vicinity of their opponents' goal. Chatterbuck, Small and Leighton all tried shots, the last-named player on one occasion hitting the bar with a sting- ing shot. After a very anxious time the Navy cleared their territory for a while, and Carviol missed a rather difficult chance. Half-time arrived with neither, goal penetrated.
A large crowd, mainly composed of Chinese, witnessed this match on the Club Ground. By far the major portion of the play was around the Engineers' goal, although, in spite of this, Jones was seldom troubled with actual shots. The Sappers got away occasionally, and un one occasion Feakes put in a beauti 'Eul shot from the right wing, causing the custodian to concedo a cornér
ilar shot from the left wing followed Shortly afterwards, but to no purpose. The score against the soldiers would have been much heavier, had it not been for the bustling tanties of their backs, o put in a tremendous amount of pard work. The Chinese opened the account with a good goal, and shortly Afterwarde Jones only just prevented a second by throwing himself full length on the ground, and pushing the ball

THE ONLY PEACE
They come to us with dripping hands,
Blood stains the "olive branch” they bear, Trampling across the ravished lazide
Where tortured people know despair, They prate of peace whose brutal grip
Still holds the realms we swore to free; The cracking of the slave's whip
Still moks the plaint of liberty.
Deep down beneath the ocean waves
The pirstes murdered victims sleep; By many a thousand British graves, In spirit still our watch, we keep. And now the bully in his pride
Would bid the hand of vengeance stay, Knowing the signs that well botido The dawning of our brighter day.
By all our dear and sphudid dead, By all the blood and all the teara That Britab hearts and oves have shed
In our bag aganz of years,
