JAPANESE APPLICATION. Mr. P. W. Goldring appeared on behalf of a Japanese applicant for an adjunct licence for premises at Wanchai. Goldring explained that the premises would be used only by Japanese and Orientals. His client had been instigated to make the application by captains and engineers of Japanese coal boats, which generally anchored off Wanchai. These men felt the need for same place or other where they could obtain food and refresh- ment. Also there were nearly 1,000 Japanese residents in Wanchai,

The board decided to grant the applicant a restaurant keeper's adjunct Licence, for the sale of beer and Japanese wines only, such sales to take place between 12.30 pm, and 2.30 p.m., and 7 pm, and 10 p.m.
