CORRESPONDENT-]
British Hinquantené, Sept. 27th,
To-day Thiepval is ours, and it is, I think, the greatest triumph that we have won and the most staggering blow that German military prestige was suffered in this battle. The natural strength of the position is notorious, and with its under ground defences it was a veritable Gibral tar, The Gornians never believed that it could be taken. Officers captured to-day freely confess that they regarded it as impregnable. The place, moreover, has been garrisoned by one regiment the 180th Wurtembergers-since September, 1914. It was a matter of pride with them to hold it, and they have gloried in its impregnability. They were staut troops, and they fought hard, and 1,000 of them are prisoners in our hands to-day. They are not now mon, but voterzas who have had in their keeping one of Germany's strongholds for 24 months, types of the best meu with whom Germany started the war; and they have told us to day how they have lain snug in their dug-outa while our worst bombardments have torn the ground above them and have laughed at the idea of our ever winning Thiepval
