Captain George Alison was wounded twice previously, and was mentioned in Sir John (now Lord) French's despatches on January 1st of the present year.

School he entered the Bank of England, and he had good prospects of great earthly success. But such was his self sacrificing spirit that he threw up his bank appointment in order to enter the ministry of the Church, and though it was only after great difficulty that he could find the funds to pay for his college course, he did so. He worked with him (Dr. Lander) in a living in Lancashire, and also went with him to Liverpool, and after he (the Bishop had been called to Hongkong, the late Mr. Spink was offered by him the living of St. Andrew's, Kowloon, and though it meant considerable self-sacrifice, le came out here. They all knew their late chaplain's subsequent history. He went to the living of St. Clement's, Liverpool, but after the war had been in progress for some time he felt the call of his country. He saw the many young men of his parish going away from him to the front, and he felt it was his duty to go with them. He applied for a chap laincy, but none was to be had. He was determined to go, however, to help. his young men in their spiritual life and to stand up for his country, and so he enlisted as a private in the Liverpool Regiment. After serving for for months as a private he was appointed to the Chaplaincy of the Regiment, and it was in that capacity that he recently laid down his life for them and for his country

At the Hongkong Magistracy yester-nothing of the cost of travelling, day, Messrs. W. G. Humphreys & Co. summoned. A Kwai & Co., and the Hongkong Soap and Soda Company for infringing their trade mark on a num ber of tablets of soap.
Messrs. Hum phreys also summoned the Yan Ho frm for a similar offence in respect of lamp burners.
Mr. Grist, who appeared on behalf of plaintiffs, said an agreement had been arrived at between the plaintiffs and the offending parties, and he would ask for the case to be adjourned.
The case was accordingly adjourned ine die.
Another point that will appeal to parents especially is that Hongkong may be reached in a few days, so that students may return during the holidays. Also, while pursuing their foreign educa- tion under foreign surroundings and supervision, they may take Mandarin they have finished that they have received Couraus, so that it may not be said when a foreign education at the expense of neglecting their own mother tongue
The China Association are interested deeply in the movement toward increas ing the number of Chinese students at Hongkong University, and it is expected that a resident agent of the University will be appointed for Shanghai within & few weeks
