SINGAPORE WOMEN AND THE WAR.

Singapore women are very eager to do something that will prove their deep sympathy with victims of the war. A movement has already been started, as announced in our issue of April 10th, for collecting women's" personal econo my savings monthly with a view to soldiers and sailors blinded in the war. But it is felt that more than this may be done. Queen Mary has banded over to the Red Cross Bociety, the Star, and Garter Hotel at Richmond, which occupies what many consider the most beautiful site in England, in order that it may be made into a home for soldiers and sailors permanently disabled on “British Women's Hospital Star and Gatter Building Fund" and the appeal for money is made to women only. The women in Singapore would like to have award, or a fixed number of beds in that Home for which they would make themselves responsible, and with which the name of Singapore would ever be associated. So far, the proposal has only been discussed privately, but it is pro- posed to hold a meeting of women at the Victoria Memorial Hall to consider the RATES OF EXCHANGE AT BOMBAY matter and if possible to arrange for Vor Demad Drafts of London on the day

oncert in the Victoria Theatre of or preceding the departure of the Day, the admission charges, glish Mails also Table of the and low so that all may participate, Yearly Approximate Average Courts, garden parties, and personal collectin would be kept in view as means of f raising the fund to substantial pro portions.Straits Times.
