The CHAIRMAN Suid-The report and ac counts, with which is printed the auditor's report, having been in your hands for some days, I propose to take as rend. I regret to say that the year's working does not com. pare favourably with that of the previous year, the net cut being 85,035.04 shert of the profit made for 1914. The explanation of this is, of course, not far to seek, due as it is to the falling off in reats arising from the oss of many of our former tenants from war causes, and I regret to my that we have several of our houses still yazant, I have Ettle doubt, however, but they when time improve these will again rendi'y let. With these few remarks, I now beg to propose that the report and accounts, as presented, be adopted and passed,

Having regard to the fact that deceased was found dead in his bunk so soon after the collision, he (the Coroner) considered it his duty to hold a public enquiry with a jury. He might also mention that the bottles and their contents found in de. ceased's cabin were also Font to the Government Analyist. The analysis Was

Dr. MacFarlane (Medical Officer of the Public Mortuary also gave evidence, saying that death in his opinion was due to falty degeneration of the heart,

In answer to Mr. Messer, he said it was quite the usual thing for him to send the stomach and parts of other organe to the Government Analyst for poison in cases of sudden death where the causes were not obvious to the maked eye.

Mr. Messer-When a iman dies from fatty degeneration of the heart the actual death is usually brought on by violent exercise, is it not?--Yes.

In this case he died in his bed. Would you consider that anxiety caused by the collision had possibly affected the heart?→ Yes, I think so. The anxiety would have a depressing effect on the heart.

Captain F. D. Pottinger, master of the Linen, deposed that Mr. Shepherd joined the ship on the 23rd January, 1910. He appeared to be in good health. He last saw him alive about 11 am, on the 5th February, and heard of his death at 9 am on the eth inst. At the time of the collision deceased was on the bridge,

Answering Mr. Messer, witness said he Saw Shepherd on the bridge possibly a minute after the collision. He was not excited.
