A blind Chinese youth was saved from almost certain death on Sunday afternoon by the prompt and plucky action of the Stationmastor at Yaumati. train was standing in the station and the youth stepped out on the wrong side just as the up express to Canton was running through. At the Magistracy yesterday Capt. R. D. Thomas, of the #eing Shan, charged. seven Chineze with travelling from Macno- to Hongkong without paying their faces, and with intent to defraud. Inspector Sim said that defendants had all gone to Macne to gamble and having lost all their money had to return as stowaways. Six defendants were sentenced to 14 daya' hard' labour. The other, a boy, was dismissed with a caution.
