THE REVENCE MAINTAINED. Year by year you have been taught to espect a large increase in your revenue, and for the last six years the annual increase has averaged £17,890. In 1913 the increase over the preceeding year was yearly £34,000, and we were confident that the year 1914 would furnish a HOME surplus largely exereding any which had been earned before. This forecast weald no doubt, have been justified if it had not been for this war, which is devastating the world and threatening the East with convulsion. On the outbreak of hostilities communication

The Via Chairman (Mr. Edward Dent) seconded the motion.
The Chairman, in reply to questions, stated that the company owed nothing and had £60,000 to their credit at the bank. At every meeting of the company there were advocates of stagnation and advo- cates of progress, but in 1906 it was decided to adopt a policy of progress. If that policy had not been adopted, their wretched dividends of 1 per cent, or 2 per cent would have dwindled away, and, more than that, they would have lost their Charter.
When you consider all these adverso conditions, I think you will agree that we have done well to maintain our revenue, and are justified in anticipating the future with confidence. Moreover, the history of the year is not entirely one of stagnation and retrogression. There has been considerable progress under various heads of the administration. Develop ment has progressed, and all the great works in our programme, including the relaying of 10 out of 57 miles of railway DOUND VOLUMES of the ZIONGKONG | and the building of the Paper Bridg BERLY PRESS, JANUARY to JUNE,
