REVOLUTION.
Customs revenue of China for the first quarter of this year showed a decrease of three and a half million trels contpared with the returns for the corresponding period of 1014. How much of that decline was due to the boycott of Japanese goods, the published information does not dia- cibee. It is quite clear, however, that the boycott has hit China as much as it has hurt Japan. perhaps more so, because owing to the disorganisation of industries CHINESE EXTRADITION CASE, in Europe by the war Japan has found new openings for her manufactures, and the indications arẻ that so far as exports are concerned her total for the past six- months compares very favourably with the returns for the erresponding period last year. A Japanese journalist writing some time ago on the subject of the boycott predicted that it would be short-lived because the Chinese are sentirental in political affairs" and that when they realised that the boycutt really attacked "their own pocket, arithmetic would give the final decision. There is an element of trath in this, and if the President's
Macidate results in the punishment of the agitators who are imperilling the interests of their country there is little reason to doubt that the boycott will acon cense. There are many indications already that is is breaking down.
