HONGKONG TENNIS
TOURNAMENT.
PROSPECT OF SOME REEN STRUGGLES.
Although many more entries have yet to come in for the annual tennis tourna moat, open to members of the Hongkong Cricket Club, those names which already appear on the board indicate that some very koon games will be witnessed in the course of the competition. The entries close on Saturday, by which time the brothers Hancock will be found among the competitors, and should these two pair fortunes in the Doubles and Professional Pairs, which no doubt will be the case, they should constitute & most formidable puir.
The Open Championship Singles, for a £50 cup kindly presented by Sir Paul Chator, C.M.G., to be held for one year and won outright if won three years in succession, had, up to last evening, at tracted aine entrants-Capt. Hattersly Smith, and Messrs. S. E. Green, L. le Breton, N. E. Kent, V. P. Hamilton, A.. R. Linton, G. R. Bayer, F. W. Cary, and W. H. Ford. Last year's winner of this competition was H. A. Nisbet, who will meet the winner of this years competition in the final. I will be reniembered that in last year's tournament S. E. Green, the Kowloon player, won his way to the final by means of some remarkably good play, and there were many who predicted that he was quite capable of defeating Nisbet. However, the latter's experience and stay. ing powers, combined with just a little. skill judiciously used, proved superior in a hard-fought final. Reports of Green are again good this year. It is well-known that he is very keen on secur ing the championship of the Colony, and there is every probability that the same players which faced each other in last year's final will do so again in the impend. ing tournament Should this occur though a surprise may yet be in store the general excellence of the final need not be commented upon, Green will doubt- less start a very warm favourite; both as a result of last year's showing and also on account of the fact that the winning of the championship is one of his ambi
