2.G.. BEAT THE NAVY
In a Hongkong League game on the Naval ground at Happy Valley on Satur day, the Royal Garrison Artillery gained a victory over the Navy by three clear goals. The bluejackels, were very unfor tunate in losing by such a decisive majority, as they had quite a fair share of the territorial exchanges. Two of the goals registered against them were scored. by members of their own defence.
POLICE OVERWHELMED BY THE CLUB
The Hongkong Club's forwards were in merry mood in their friendly encounter with the Police on the Club ground on Baturday, chalking up no fewer than six goals without sustaining a reply from their confrères. The game, however, can only be described as a fiasco and was most painful to watch. Neither combination appeared to take matters at all seriously, and, if a few good collaborative move ments by the Hongkong quintette be
a by the excepted, the exchanges were absolutely devoid of anything', approaching" "good football J Stalker and W. V. Fennell, with a brace cach, and T. Tod and W. B Rigden notched the Club's goals.
ABANDONED,
At the last moment it was found impossible to play the Rugby game, Club v. Tamar, on Saturday, for a variety of
reasons.

A poor, miserable specimen of a man, shabby civilian clothes, he had been engaged owing to his intimate knowledge of the district in which our troops are now operating. One of his first jobs was to act as guide to the London Scottish and the Lincolna
A sharp debate took place in the House of Lords on the 18th November regarding the alleged slackness of the Home Office The London Scottish were taken by this respecting spies Lord Londonderry, duran across a zone which exposed them to ing an angry speech, said he had every the most deadly Dre from the enemy ground, for believing that signalling and taken into a place which had it not boon espionage was going on on the north-east for the marvellous gallantry of our good Coast As Lord Lieutenant of Durham he boys, from London town, would bave intended inst

Some of the Indians had seen the fellow before he went out with the troops es guide, and so when he reappeared he was immediately spotted by the Ghurkas, who, as is their wont, had almost decided to take matters into their own hands and dispense with the formalities of a court martialAMIN
However, when a white officer came along he saw a miserable, chalky-faced weed of a man in the centre of a circle of Ghurkas, one of whom was making fan- tastic motions with his Auhr in front of the spy's chest, at the amo tim informing him that he (the spy) was going to be cut up and eaten by them for their next meal. The court-martial was short and sharp,
and the evidence was conclusive. There is now one spy less in the German service.
A JEST IN THE TRENCHES.
In the neighbourhood of Vailly trenches are so close that constant jokes are played by the rival armies. The Times Paris correspondent tells the story that a German who left the lines to search for milk in a farmhouse, by mistake wandered into the French trenches, where he was captured and detained all night. He was sent back to the trenches, dressed in, woman's clothes. His captors had merely taken the milk
