GERMANS COMPELLED TO EVACUATE COMPITELY THE
LEFT BANK OF YSER CANAL
Loy, November 15th. 5.30 p.m..
A Paris communiqué states that yestery it was comparatively quiet on the whole front, the day being prippally marked by artillery duols.
The Germans, however, again delipted attacks northward, castward and southward of Ypres, all of whiy were repulsed with heary losses. Thus, during the last few days, the enemy's efforts have resulted in nothing but the taking of the ruind village of Dixmude, which, owing to its isolated position on the rig bank of the canal, rendered its defence difficult.
We continue to pup forward in the trenches along the greater part of the front from the Ly to the Oise.
There have beer only simple earnomade actions in detail along the rest of the front.
LONDON, November 16th.
1.50a.m.
The official communiqué issued at Paris in the evening stated that the most notable incident during the day had been the throwing back of the onemy to the right bank of the Yser canal.
A
portion of the left bank, which the Germans still held, has been completely evacuated.
We have recaptured, mouth of Blxschoote, a little wood which had been lost after a night attack. The enemy, at the end of the day, unsuccessfully tried to take the offensive south of Ypres. There has been. nothing noteworthy elsewhere on the front...
[Official Telegrams from French Government vió l'eling.]
On the 13th the fighting was less violent throughout the North region. The German attack against the bridgehead of Nieuport failed. The Gernian offensive also failed East and South East of Ypres, where the Germans were obliged to abandon numerous killed on the ground. The Allies made detailed progress between Labasse canal and Arras and forced the energy lack in the regions of Lassiguy and Aisne. Fiere fighting also took place in Argonne without result for the Germans who sustained heavy losses caused by French artillery. The French artillery stopped at the very beginning the German attempts in the ares around Verdun.
On the 14th the situation was cale and. German attacks around Vpros were all repulsed. It is confirmed that in that region the Germans
region sustained very heavy losses; one battalion starting on the 13th in the morning with an effective of 1,000 men was in the evening counting only. 120, who were taken prisoners. Numerous companies of infantry as well the Prussian Guard and the Bavarian Corps which, at the beginning of November, had a strength of about 250 or 300 men have seen their numbers reduced now to 50 or 100 men,
