He saw no steel grill out side the wheel-house.
Mr. Looker cross-examined the witness at length, and said that the Captain Superintendent, of courss, contended that they did not take reasonable precautions, and broke the regulations in the bond."

The seaman small-pox, and he was prepared to prove that this was treated by the Captain, and as a mintter of fact there was a three-days' rash on the man's face when he was inspected by the doctor. The defendant admitted signing the there was no steel grill outside the wheelhealth certificate, but said he did not know Dr. Keyt, the Port doctor, whom he took for a newspaper reporter. He thought the paper was report.
The Crown Solicitor said that Dr. Keyt did not see the patient at all until later. Dr. Grone saw the patient. The Cap-! tain had evidently thought the case serious, because be actually went on shore to Dr. Fitzwilliams' office, and asked him to go on board.
Mr Looker said he did not think he conscientiously could, however willing he night be. He was afraid that he must make the police prove everything in the case, It was a quasi-criminal case, and the police were seeking to deprive the owners of the bond, and he could not be expected to assist them to take away the

Mr. Looker said the Hon. C.S.P.. might snap up anything he might let drop, and that was what he wanted to avoid.
The Hon. C.8.P. agreed to leave the wittes till the next hearing after Mr Looker had seen him.
His Worship intimated he would like to hear some evidence.
The Crown Solicitor-The Captain has admitted as a matter of fact that he did not hoist the Ang, and that he had sick- ness on board. I do not see that we can get further evidence than that.
Dr. Frederick Keyt, the Port doctor, was called, however, and he deposed that the ship arrived at 6 o'clock, and that te went on board at 8 o'clock. She was lying in Wanchai Bay, and not in the quarantine anchorage,
His Worship questioned the Crown. Solicitor as to whether he would with draw the second charge, and Mr. Hodgson said he could not withdraw it, but would agree to the fine just imposed covering both.
His Worship thon said he found the defendant guilty on the second charge, but would impose no penalty in respect of it.
