FOOTBALL JUTTINGS.
Quantity, rather than quality, was served up to the football-loving crowd at Happy Valley last Saturday. Two senior competition matches were in progress at the same time, but the zest and appetite for the sensational were unsatisfied and unrewarded, only very moderate exhibi tions being given by oven the best of the four clubs engaged. It was a pity, because people hoped to witness a repetition of the previous week-end's stern fight some, indeed, misled by an erring announce- ment, canie prepared to see the R.G.A. and R.E. fight their battle anew, and they were all the more disappointed.
By the way, I licar from official sources that the match, arranged for Saturday: (to-day) between these two military sides will not come off. As it is told, Bervice arrangements will prevent the men from being called upon for football, and so wo must possess our souls in patience yet- a while longer. While wo all regret that the spectacle of these two fino sides in opposition will be denied us until somo date in 1914, yet we are sportsmen enough to agree with the meeting being postponed until each club is able to call upon its eleven best men. As a matter of fact, this camping business is going to cause a very. lean gix weeks för all of us. Very few good games will be played this side of Christmas in the leagues tho time has not yet arrived when Naval and Military. programmes are subservient to aport, and so we must grin and bear it-bear it, at any rate.
Another match not played because of the ground allotment difficulty, and this time in the U.S. League. This means that the responsibility will be fixed and the subject thrashed out carly. On Monday next, to be precise, for I notice. the agenda for the League Committee meeting on that date provides for the discussion, and some drastic steps will have to be taken to prevent a recurrence of this. difficulty. The fact that the Submarines have claimed the points from the 58th Company R.Q.A. may or may not imply that the fault lies on the Army Iside, but this will all be brought out, and readers of this paper shell know. A long. walk or ride through the salubrious Praya For Eastern Queen's Rond is not mollifying to the temper, und to arrive at the Valley in time to be told there is nothing doing is the ins, straw. There is also another point to consider: the appointed referee is quite within his rights in elaiming his fee of two dollars, whether his services are used or not, and it will operate hardly on the leagues to have to pay many unnecessary claims for such as these, I may easily make all the difference between purchasing and fore- going medals for the champion teams at the end of the season.
FOUL BREATH.
WOMEN'S GREATEST MISFORTUNE,
The old saying that "distance lends enchantment" was nevermore aptly to the point than when applied to those people whose breath is laden with evd smelling odours. Many persons appear most attractive at a distance, but produce a feeling of pity and disgust when close to because of the condition of their breath. For instance, it makes little difference how beautiful a woman may be, or how charming her manner if her breath is foul, her charm is gone and she is at a dis- advantage when ever she comes in contact with other people, Foul. breath in women arouses in mun a feeling of repugnance and a desire to get out of the company of such a woman as quickly as possible, and even women will avoid her. It is therefore important for every woman wbę values her acrsonal attraction to take such care of herself that this unpleasant and unnecessary complaint is avoided or corrected. Men, women and children who are troubled with this complaint will drive their friends away more rapidly than any other affliction. People do not realise their breaths are bad because they are like those who are constantly employed among paints and varnishes--they get used to what is to others a most offensive smell. Iu nearly all cases this condition is due to Constipation and a disordered Stomach, and a coated Tongue, slight Headache, and feverishness are the sure signs that the digestive organs are retaining quantities of impurities from which the system should be free, thereby causing the Breath to become charged with the foul odour. In Dr. Morses' Indian Root Pills there will be found a searching, cleansing remedy which will drive the masses of decaying corruption-that poison the Blood and contaminate the breath from the system through the regular channels. They get at the cause as no other remedy does. They get at the the foundation of the complaint, They give you clean bowels, a healthy stomach, a lively liver, and blend that is rich and red. They are safe, sure and reliable remedy, and will prevent many of the complaints se common if taken once or twice a week to keep the system in a healthy condition. They are purely vegetable, and their action is not accompanied by any nauscous or griping sensation, but is mild and gentle.

I have been privileged to see the proofz of the Association bandbook for the season, It is due for issue to all con- cerned by the time of the next Council meeting on 4th December; it apparently all depends upon the printers. The books contains 48 pages of small type and will be a compendium of all that concerns the Association, its leagues, and its clubs. All officers are duly recorded, and the Tales of each competition find a place. The records of last season are shown in tabulated form, and the Hongkong Club Shield Competition comes in for a detailed description, Referees and refereeing matters fill many pages, and will be most helpful to all who undertake for who think of taking on this form of the sport. Following the lists of official whistlers come some Hints to Referees," which are pregnant with good bits of advice, and players and spectators alike will do well to digest these pages in particular. Under the heading, What should the referee give?". come some puzzling questions which will tax the most enthusiastic Vaileyite, and I can foresee Some arguments arising therefrom. Here. is a typical knotty one In the penalty area a defender turns his back to the referee and plays the ball in such a way that the whole crowd shouts Hands."" Others are similar, or harder, and aspirants for officình recognition will do wel to master them and similar hard-uns. Advice to players and to spectators is also given, and it may be useful and even necessary in Hongkong. Captains and secretaries are not free from its embraces, and altogether it ought to be in the possession of every lover of the gume. It will not, because of a limited issue to clubs in membership, Finally, in A few remarks by the Secretary," Mr. Esger apologises for its apparent incom pleteness on publication and promises
better next time, occasion arises." Ah, well, there is no finality in anything. A.
