TRADE OF HONGKONG.***

The appended summary of statistical and other information has been culled from the fortnightly circulus of the Hong- kong Genaral Chamber of Commerce :-

Figures obtained from the Superintendont of Imports and Exports show that the stocks on 23rd October wore 1,520 cheats of Patna, 700 of Benares. 1,0903 of Malwn, and 485 Persian and Turkish. Reports regarding Bengal neertified opium show that there were on the samo dalo 60 chests of Patna and 52 of Benares The amount bailed for local consumption was 40 chests of Patna and 18 of Bonares. The summary of exporta for the same period show Malwa 294, Patna 94, Benares 50. Under the unoortified heading there were 94 of Persian. In the Beugel market there has been a small- domsad for New Bonarer only at previous quotations.

EXFORTA

The report of the Association of Exporters and Dealers of Hongkong shows- the market to be in a listless condition. Feathers prove just a slight excoption, there having been a fair amount of inquiry for A. and A.A. classes át quotations of 836.25 and 840 per picul respectively. Ginger is quiet and the arrivals of Galangal are again mill. Cassin Oil has failed to enliven matters. Star Aniseed Oil prices wore wealtor towards the closo, and the Star Aniseed was also steady, there being no business to report, "Market quiet" is also applied to human hair and few transactions were rocarded at anything approaching satisfactory prices. There has been no business in tin and the Association, commenting on this poor state of affairs, state:The prics idons of Hong kong dealers are still be far too high com pared with values for Straits tin No salos have been made in Saigon Cassia, but a few hundred picnls of gall puts have beon

of camphor because the stores were empty, but though bristics were offered at reasonable ratos there were no transactions.

IMPORTA

The import statistics show that the business in cotton yarn transacted during the interval has been on the small side, which is attributed to the fact that the dealers are still holding fairly large bargains. The decline in the value of American cotton, though but temporary, daroped the spirits of speculators and as a consequence the values had beon slightly roukened. The quotations are:--No 10s at 8107 to $132, No. 12s at 8114 to $184, No. 168 at $127 ta $144, No. 20s at $130 to $155. The arrivals were 8,000 balos and the sales totalled, 4,000 bales. There were no shipments. The unsold stock consisted of 23,000 haler and the bargains wore 60,000 halesz
