COMPANY MEETING.
CHINA LIGHT AND POWER CO., LIMITED.
Tho anual general meeting of the above Company was held at the offices of Mesars, Showan, Tomes & Co., Ltd., on Saturday Mr. G. A, Tomes presided, and there were also present; Sir Paul Chater, C.M.G, Mr. H. P White (Consulting Committee), Messrs, H, F. Campbell, H. R. B. Hancock, J. A. Young, J. H. T. McMurtrio, A. A. Cordeiro, A. 8. Elli, Ng Hon Ter, and T. Leeman (secretary).
The Secretary having read the notice convening the meeting,
THE HONGKONG DAILY PRESS, MONDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1913,
The OHAIRMAN said: The report and accounts, including the auditors' cortifi- cate, may with your permission be taken as read. The figures show an improve ment over last year, but we have not reached the extent of business wa had hoped for. The total number of consumers lias increased by 21 per cent, but the total connection to the musins in kilowatts has net increased, as the replacement of carbon by metallic filament lamps has necessitate recount at a lower wastage pir candle-power; the connection now stands al 085.1 kilowatts against lust year's 663,4, n reduction of a little less than 10 per cent, and the receipts from sale of current have increased by 5 per cent. For the last quarter to September 30th, receipts ara 15 per cent. better than fer the same time last year. The popula tion of Kowloon seems to riso very slowly, and there has been some increase in European buildings, but not enough to have any material effect upon the Company Whon Kowloon takes a spurt. generally we can hope for a satisfactory increase of profits, and until then we must be satisfied with the small but steady progress recorded in the past few years. The question of utilizing some of our spare load in the day-time for the charging of electric motor buses, should the outlook for profitable employment of sach vehicles warrant it, has been under consideration for some time, and if the information being acquired is promising we may have something to say on the subject bye-and-bye. Before moving tha adoption of the report and accounts, I shall be glad to answer any questions.
There were no questions, and the CHATILMAN accordingly moved bis resolution.
- Mr. H. P. WAIT seconded, and it was curriet
On the motion of Mr. MCMURTRIE, seconded by Mr. No Hos Tsz, Sir Paul Chater and Mr. White were re-elected as the Consulting Committee.
Messrs O'D. Courdin and W. H. Potts were re-appointed as auditors, at
remuneration of $100, on the proposi tion of Mr. HANCOCE, seconded by Mr. YOUNG.
