Sensational possibilities are attributed to an invention of a young Italian, which, it is claimed, will put an end to The inventor, an engineer named Ulivi, is stated to have successfully demonstrated outside Havre a method of exploding, at a distance varying from 800 yards to 19 miles, various charges hermetically sealed in metal receptacles and sank at random. A series of these receptacles was laid down at 600 yards apart for a distance of about 6,000 yards, and a final test was made at a distance of over 12 miles. Up to the present it had been proved that charges could be exploded if filled with Branly coherer, which was useful for submarine tines, and, in fact, any charge that the explorer wished to ignite, But livi's method is of infinitely greater possibilities, aiming at the enemy's xplosives wherever they may be stored, Should trials at longer distances succeed it would almost seen as if an end were approaching to all naval warfare and to navies themselves.
