Information has reached the Colony that on Tuesday morning a band of about the Customs Station at Gaemoon, on 30 robbers, “armed to the teeth," attack an estuary of the West River, nhout coits readiness to comply with Japan's miles south of Kongmoon, in the Sum- Jemands. ning district.
The robbers made an unexpected attack
on the inhabitants, who were practically defenceless, and they stripped the place of everything they could conveniently carry away with them, even robbing a peor, decrepit old coolie of his bed and clothes. Mr. A. Z. de Souza, a Portu- uese, was the only European at the Station, and at the time of the raid he at the mercy of the men, but he was only was in his bath. no official statement on the subject has yet been mado, but we have been informed by a Correspondent at Peking that one of the concessions granted by the Corporation is Que of considerable importance to Hongkong. It may ho WINE & SPIRIT MERCHANTS ¦ recalled that the trunk line which was given first place in Dr. SUN YAT-SEN's outline was one starting from Histan and passing through the Provinces of Kwang tung, Kaugai, Yunnan aud Szechuan, and entoring Tibet. One projected railway for which the Corporation agreed to give a concession is evidently a modification of this scheme, for we are informed that it is for a railway from Canton to Chungking (Szechuan) vii Wuchow (Kwangsi), a total length of between 700 and 800 miles. The British Gra of Mesors PAULING & Co., one of the biggest railway contracting firms in the world, through their representative, Lord P'FRENCH, conducted negotiations in Chins with Dr. Sus Yar-ens as President of the National Chinese Railway Corporation for the construction of this line, and even tually an agreement was signed. This agreement, we learn, is a distinct departure from all previous agreements. altogether free from political considerations and stands as

The agreement had only just reached Feling for ratification by the Government when the insurrection occurred, followed by the avowal of Dr. SUN YAT SEN as a supporter of the rebels. This vowal led to the cancellation of the powers given to Dr. Su in respect of railway development, and the Chinese National Railway Corporation was thus
