A Celebrated Violiniste

Nervous Fatigue, Languor-

The power to excel, the confidence which ensures her brilliant successes, says the talented violinist, Miss Sybil Keymer, is catirely due to her abundance of vigorous nerve force created by Phosferine. How greatly the numerous distinctions and triumphant career of this accomplished musician are promoted by the brain energy and physical stamina developed by Phosferine, is evident from Miss Keymer's admission that the tonic "enabled me to do myself justice." This poor to excel, this ability to make fect use of her skill, depends upon the marvellous control and steadiness of the muscle serves Phosferine has given her, and to which she owes the entrancing tone and quality of her musical renditions. Naturally, this energising effect of Phosferine was accompanied by the disappearance of the headaches, listlessness, and fatigue, which were the bane of her public appearances, and it is this happy outcome which impels Miss Keymer to testify to the exceptional advantages to be derived from Phosferine.

Promptly Remedied.

Q

Miss Sybil Keymer, “ Riversiere," Albany Rd., Leighton Buzzard, Eng., writes: "I think I should inform you that I have recently derived very great benefit from the use of Phosferine. In the course of my profession I have to travel a good deal in getting to my various concerts, and I find that since using Phosferine 1 am never troubled with the headaches and listlessness which follow a long railway journey, particularly during hot weather. This is of very great importance to me, as frequently only a very little time.elapses between reaching my destination and the com- mencement of a concert, and it is such a relief to feel fresh and ready for playing in public undisturbed by the fatigues of long travelling. It is because I feel that Phosferine enables me to do myself justice as a violinist, preventing any of the unsteadiness of the muscle nerves, which is so harmful to tone and quality, that I confidently commend the tonic at every opportunity.”—July 11, 1912.

REFLECTION OF X-RAYS.

That the identity of x-rays and light is proven, the only difference in the pro- pertica boing due to the extremely short wavelength of the x-rays, is one co clusion reached by Prof. C. G. Barkla in investigations just described to the British Röntgen Society. Tho experi ments showed laws for reflection of x-rays similar to those for light. Regular sur- faces more suitable than those given by mercury were provided by the planes of crystals, and by their means the rays could he brought to a focus of dormously increased intensity. This is a discovery that may prove of importance. Prof Barkla believes, for instance, that it may be possible to concentrate the effect of x-rays on an organ of the body by suitable reflectors, and the injection of a heavy element would still further increase the effect

When needed for use, the insulating lid is removed from the top of the black, exposing a plane hot surface to receive cooking utensils. When the cooking is over, the lid is replaced, and the heat continues to accumulete until again wonted; Much less current is! necessary than with her forms of cookers, and that little is obtainable under the best and most ceonomical conditions.

ALEMINUM ON TRON

By the process of a Japanese inventor,, S. Uyenu, of Tokiu, iron is coated wit alominuse by dipping into a bag of the molten etal after being first galvanized. The aluminum bath has a temperature of 600deg to 700deg. C. The temporary zac of tin surface comes away in the first dipping, but for the best results the article to be cunted is treated two or three times During inunersion the surface of the article is swept with a steel brush. THE NEW ART

*Colour music," the new art of Prof. A. Wallace Rimington, of Queen's College, London, is expected to have upon another sense emotional and stimulative effrets similar to those of music upon the heating. A book expounding the theories has been published, and the principles are being demonstrated with a novel Instrument called the colour organ, da which compositions in coloured lights are being prepared and exhibited. The organ has keys and stops with pedals to regulate intensity. The upper portion of the instrument has apertures from which are projected the colours, controlled by the keys, and these colours appear on a white serin atake opposite end of the darkened hall. To viliance the effect this screen is draped in folls, surrounded with black and framed in a double band of white, -Playing with colours for entertainment is so far an unfamiliar field, but aside from this the new apparatus should prove of value in a practical way by giving instruction in colour harmony in decora- tion

AL RESISTANCE IN TUNNELS. The effects of air resistance are well shown in the 191-mile Simplon tunnel where an exceptionally high armonnt of energy is required for running the electric. trains. The tunnel--which is 18 feet wide and 18 feet high, with a sectional area of 250 square feet-has a ventilating current of 3,330 cubic feet of air per seond, maintained by two large blast fans at the Brigue end and two exhaust fans B. A MEASURE OF COOLING,

The "psuchrainometer" of Dr. J. Milie, of Edinburgh, is a measure for cooling by the air. A copper cylinder is enclosed in plaster of Paris, except the hemispherical top, and contains parafin oil kept at Bideg. F., or blood heat, hy an electric current that is being con Istantly recorded. From the current sustaining the fixed temperature, the heat lass, in calories per square centimeter per second is calculated.

STORING HEAT FOR COOKING The solution of the problem of electric cooking seems to be brought nearer by the new plan of heat-storage. This requires. only a moderate current continuously, and enough can be supplied at the time when 2
