Company involved in the present scandal is the Taisho Cinematograph Company, of Suwa-cho, Asakusa. Mr. Murakami, the President, who is an ex-member of the Diet for Iwate prefecture, and four Luther directors and officials have been arrested, and are now being subjected to strict examination.

REVIEW OF THE FAST HALF-YEAR.

The Nippon notes that, speaking at the recent dinner of the Tokyo Bankers' Club. Baron Takahashi, Minister of Finance, expressed an optimistic opinion of the future of the foreign trade af this country. The Minister said the trade this year not only showed a large increase on the figures for last year in bulk, but the rate of increase in exports was more remarkable than that of imports. True, proceeds the Tokyo journal, the trade this year up to the end of the first quarter was in the state the Minister described. Last month, however, conditions were totally reversed. imports showing a marked increase. In the last decade of lost month the rate of increase in imports was far greater than that in exports, contrary to the observation of the Minis Pariter of Finance, and in business circles the Minister's speech is heard with the tongue in the cheek. The Tokyo journal compares the value of the trade for the half-year just closed with that of the corresponding period of last year--as- follows:--
