The London season has commenced and all theatres, painees of variety, cinemato graph shows, etc., are being well attended. The past winter has, as far as theatres are concerned, not been a exccessful one in respect of productions finance. It is astonishing how so many theatres over thirty-exist in Loudon, Tho seating capacity of these houses in about thirty-six thousand; in addition to this there are ni dozen music halls with scating accommodation for twenty thon-CROI SING, German str.. 1,036, G. Empire, Hippodrome, Opera House. Alhambra, and other smaller houses Revues on a big scale are drawing big houses, whilst the theatres suffer to a great extent finan- cially.
The latest musical play is "Tho Marriage Market," produced by Mr. George Edwardes at Daly's Theatre It ie a success from every point of view, and Misa Gladys Unger is to be congratulated an her splendid adaptation from the Hun- garian. The production is gorgeous and the setting is beautiful. The plot is full of fun and life. The opening scene is laid on the Pacific Slopes of South California, at The Palace Hotel, the proprietor of which is also Sheriff of the place. He docides, for some reason of his own," to convert the ancient gams of mock marri age into reality. Mariposa Gilroy (Miss Sari Petrás), only child of the rich Senator, Abe K. Gilroy (Mr. A. E. Douglas), and her companion, Kitty Kent (Miss Gertio Millar), come on the scene disguised as cowgirls to join in the fùn, nut knowing of the solemnity of the game. Lord Hurlingham (Mr. G. P. Huntley), who is out for big game and a rich wife, appears in time with his valet, Blinker (Mr. W. H. Berry). His Lordship Joses his heart to Kitty, who, he imagines, ir Marinosa's maid, and Blinker is in love with Mariposa, thinking she is the mail. Jack Fleetwood (Mr. Robert Michaclisi, | known as Slippery Jack, a handsome cowboy, determines to win Mariposa, and he obtains the position of auctioneer and knocks down the wrong lot to Hurlingham, who finds himself married to Kitty and Fleetwood obtains his own choice. The discovery of the reality of the weddings is made eventually and some capital fun is obtained, but the charming manner in which the tale unfolds itself must be seen to be enjoyed.
At the Savoy Theatre, Mr. Norman Trevor has produced a faree by the Hun- garian dramatist, Herr Forerooz Herezagh,
entitled “Seven Sisters,” but whether it will live remains to be seen, although it is clever. The theme is that Count. Fari Horkey (Mr. Norman Trevor), a-lieu- tenant in the reserves, visits the house of Mme. Gyurkovics (Miss Mary Rorke), a widow, and fulls in love with Mici (Miss L. Cororie), one of her seven daughters, but before consent is given, three elder sisters must be married. The Count induces Mici to bet him three kisses to nothing that he will fird husbands for the three. By fabrication of an order he to compromise his Colonel, manages Baron Radviany (Mr. Ernest Thesiger). with the eldest sister, Katinka (Miss Enid
