YARN.-During the first part of the fort- night ruled very weak, and although prices declined heavily, say, 3 to 85 per halo, business was rather slack. THE FREIGHT MARKET.

Messrs. Lamke & Rogge, of Hongkong, in their weekly freight circular dated thic 94th inst. state:

Chartering operations during the past fortnight have once more been on a moderato scale and a somewhat easier feeling is pervading the freight market. The amount of available tonnage, however, is anything bat in excess of requirements, and it is quite certain that under the influence of

renewed and locked for demand from the Southern Rice ports, rates will again, show an upward tendency. 122

in all about 19,650, comprising 600 hales of No. 6a, 100 bales of No. 5s, 10,450 bales of No. 10, 3,700 bales of No. 18, 600 bales of No. 16s, and 4,200 hales of No. 20s; unsold stock is about 20,000 bales. Sold but uncleared (both spot and to arrive) about 36,000 bales, market closes steady.

JAPANESE YARN.Sales of 500 hales of 20 at 8151...

SUNDAY ARTICLES.-In exports sales are. reported in Apricots at $144, to $15 per picul, Bhesabole, at $0 por pioul, Onions at 1 per basket. Borax at $17 per picul, Cloves.

The North reports that froights on the Coast have also eased up a little, and the demand for tonnage having subsided some- what it is expected that rates will rule easier in the near future.

SAIGON (HONGKONG-Very little has been done in the way of chartering in the absence of any briek demand, and rates after having worked their way up from 17 cents to 24 cents, have again declined to 23 cents per picul Rice exports during this schtoo amount to total. 378,716 tons com- pored with 267,082 tons during the same period of last year. Quotation for rice stands for May/June shipment No. 2 White round sifted at $4.70 against $5.90 sate period last year.

SAIGON PHILIPPINES. Rice is still coming in freely from the neighbouring places and chartering has for some time past been
