A COOK'S CLAIM.
James Hook, a Chinese cook, of 15, Wellington Street, aued Edith Morrison, of 4, Hollywood Road, for $35, of which $15 was claimed as wages due by defendant and 800 as one month's wages in lieu of notice. Plaintiff appeared in person, and Mr. Otto Kong Sing appeared for the defendant.
Plaintiff, who said he was a Ch
Christian, deposed that he entered the service of the defendant on August 22nd of last year, at a monthly wage of 890, and left her employ on March 15th. He did not know why he was discharged. Defendant told the boy there was no business, and he was no longer required. He was given $15 by the boy and next day he left.

Under cross-examination,
Blaintiff dented bint when he was engaged by the defondant that she reserved to herself the right to dismiss him at a moment's notice and that he had the same right himself.
Mr. Otto Kong. Sing said there were two "defences-one, that there was an agreement, and the other that she had a perfect right to dismiss plaintiff because of his improprietics.
