Most businesses were closed for the half day, and the attendance in the afternoon was very considerable. The Chinese as usual lined the outer course

Going up the incline Sir Acalon drew ahead, Ben Wyvis coming alongside and running neck and neck, Sweet Sultan bringing up the rear. In the straight Burkill's mount regained third place, and guing round the outside joined the leader, Sweet Sultan was flogged into the home straight, but Sir Acalon was ridden care fully. Sunlight, however, romped home with four or five lengths to spars, half a length separating second and third.
