COMMENTS ON THE GAME.

BY AN OLD HAND" IN THE "N.-C. DAILY NEWS."}

The run of the game has been fully dealt with elsewhere; I intend here merely to offer comments upon the players. Flowers kept goal for Shanghai in irreproachable style. He stopped many shota brilliantly, and could hardly have saved the single point which beat him, the ball being diverted by the shoulder of one of the players.

Of the backs, Davies played a strong fearless game. As usual, he was inclined to go too far up the field, and only his extreme mobility saved his sido from pos- siblo disaster after some of these excur sions, Curiously enough, the first goal to Shanghai resulted indirectly from au injudicious run up the field by Davies, Wade putting in a splendid centre which de-Quayle healed through. Reed was un certain and eff colour, and I still think that. Forshaw is the proper left back in a representative match.

An indescribably lightful sensation is pro- cured by those who accustom themselves, immediately be- fore retiring to rest, to clean their teeth and rinse their mouths with the dentifrice and mouthwash Odol.

5

Odol penetrates the cavities of the teeth and impregnates the whole mucous membrane of the mouth, and its refresh- ing antiseptic properties are felt at every breath that is drawn, a most useful and agreeable antidote to a stale mouth in the morning.

REED AND WOND BODIES,

The forwards were disappointing, Clifford could do little right. He showed his old fault of selfsliness, and instead of passing continually tried to run round the last man, who was nearly always too good. Forshaw was not in a happy mood, and was well held by the oosing half. It is only fair to him to say that many doing so made special mention of the fact of his judicious passes went begging, that as a team they played with marked Quayle was unsatisfactory, and showed unselfishness, making no bid for individual. judgment. The Hongkong team has my sympathy. They took the field within a few hours of their arrival; they were full value for at least one goal in the first few minutes of the game; they were beaten in the last few minutes of extra time by superior condition.

Swann in goal made a good impression, and the two points scored against him would have beaten any goalkeeper.
