Directors.

While gallantly charging a strong More position Captain Patrick McNally of the Philippine Scouts and six men (Filipinos) met death on January 23rd, and Lieuten- ants Townsend, Whitney and Cochrun with This is nineteen others were wounded. to be gleaned from a wireless message re- ceived in Manila on the 28th by Major

for the Kowloon hand and Building Co., General Bell, commanding the Division,

Limited. from

John Brigadier General

T. F. HOUGE, Pershing, commanding in Mindanao.

General Pershing says that his message J. M. E. MACHADO, of the previous day had reference to an action at Sahipas Cotts, which is six miles west of Jolo, and is a strongly de fended position, the Moros fighting from behind loopholed walls, and having dug deep ditches and thrown up bamboo eu- tanglements.

Against this cotta a force was sent out consisting of the 14th, 31st, and 40th companies of the Philippine Scouts, a detachraent of white troops (not specified, but in all likelihood drawn from the 8th infantry) and a body of Moro Constabulary, all under the carumand of Captain McNally.

McNally, says the General, handled his force with skill, and a vigorous attack This culminated in a final was made. assault on the cotta in which many in- dividual acts of gallantry were per- formed. Then it was that McNally fell, never to rise, and his comrades, officers and men, were slain and wounded.

The message makes no reference to Moro losses, nor does it state definitely that the cotta was carried. It says, however, that the band of Moros attacked has repeatedly taken the offensive against the American camp at Taglibi, and that it was a stand- ing menace to the safely of the troops both at Jola and Taglibi. The dispatch of the column under Captain McNally with orders to take the position was in- cident to the continuation of the dis- armament of the Jolo Moros.now în pro- gress, and this is being pressed forward, Colonel Swift, of the 8th cavalry, com- manding at Augur barricks, Jolo, being in general command of the military, situs-" tion and of the steps towards disarma-

ment.

I report that I have audited the above balance sheet with the books and vouchers of the Company in Hongkong and that in my opinion such balance shoot is properly drawn up so as to exhibit a true and correct view of the state of the Company's affairs at the 31st December, 1912, accord- ing to the best of my information and the explanations given me, and as shown by the books of the Company.

I have obtained all the information and explanations I have required.
