To-day is a holiday, the new holiday arranged to fill the blank caused by the disappearance of KEdward Doventh's Birthday from the Fat, and doubtless it will establish itself as a popular instituas tion

I observe that the Post Offies is request ing residents to have their correspondence addressed to their house numbers, and not to their house names, as such names ́are often confusing to Chinese postmen. In this connection I notice that a sugges tion was made recently at the Coventry Revision Court that a tax should be levied on the names of houses.

THE NATIONAL FESTIVAL. Thursday was held all over the country a national-celebration of the anniver- Rary of the outbreak of the Revolution, and in Cantou great preparations wore made for the occasion. All the streets were decorated with flags and lanterna, and festoons of Bowers and a general holiday was observed.

On the Eastern Parade Ground in the morning there was a grand parade of the soldiers, and a very interesting and instructive sight it
