A MISSIONARY EXHIBITION. An exhibition of great interest to raission enthusiasts was opened to-day at the Church House, Westminster, under the auspices of the Society for the Pro- pagation of the Gospel, with this personal patrounge of the Queen. This exhibition is designed to give to Londoners a sort of panoram of service illustrating mission work in all parts of the world, from China to British Columbia, from Indin to Japan and Coren. In the great hall of the Church House are a series of "courts," representing different countries where the Society is actively engaged... Already this year Lloyds have had to post over thirty vessels as missing and presumably, lost. The latest to go is the Glasgow sailing ship Queen Victoria, which left a Chitian port on November 16th last, with a cargo of nitrate for the United Kingdom, and has not been heard of since. The master of the Norwegian ship Marion, while making the same voyage from the west coast, says that he passed a large iceborg to the north-west of Cape Horn right in the track of as did also the Russian ship vesstila, Margaretta.
Fortunately these ships saw the berg in daylight, but it is sup. posed that the Queen Victoria struck it in the night and met the same fate as the Titanic. But in Germany four Dreadnoughts were started on identical lines at the same time, and all four are deeper in the water than was intended. The results are, of course, to reduce the speed, to submerge the armour belt, to reduce the "command" of the gans, and to lessen the area in which the ship can navigato in safety. Similarly, the Italian first Dreadnought, the Dante- Alighieri, displaces nearly 1,500 tons more than she was designed for, but a committee of experts decided it was not worth while trying to save the weight elsewhere, for it only meant a difference of half a knot in speed.
