ARRANGEMENT OF THE WORK.
In order to provide an efficient organiza- tion without any overlapping of duties, work on the Canal is divided into three distinct and practically independent sec. tious, each with its staff and under the control of a chief engineer, who is respon sible to the chairman of the Commission. The sections are known respectively as the Atlantic, Central, and Pacifle Divisions. The first extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Gatun Looks, the work including ther with the building of the locks and the excavation between these points, toge dams and other auxiliary operations. In the Central Division is comprised all the excavation and preparation between the Gatun Locks and the Pedro Miguel Locks

The great stumbling block. in the way of the marriage of soldiers being put npon a proper footing is the cost that would be entailed. Foolish notions of economy cause the authorities to consider that in the event of a war, the larger the WATCHMAKERS, number of married men fighting in the ranks the greater would be the amount required for separation and other allow- antes, for wounds, pensiers, and for gratuities in the event of a man being killed in action, or dying of his wounds.
This, however, is logic, only worthy of the War Office, says the Pall Mall Gazette.
