HIS INDIGESTION BILIOUSNESS AND CONSTIPATION

Cured by

MOTHER SEIGEL'S SYRUP.

For forty years, we have been watching the beneficial effect of Mother Seigel's Syrup as a remedy for all digestive disorders, and we could fill this paper with true. accounts of its success, time after time, with -all classes of people, in all parts of the

world.

But the testimony of anybody who has proved for himself the curative powers of Mother Seigel's Syrup will carry greater weight than anything we could say ourselves. Mr. F. Buckingham, of 19, Queen Street, Cape Town, tried Mother Seigel's Syrup for himself, some time ago, and since then he has always retained it as his family medi- cine, because it has never failed him.

The principle of the internal combus tion engine has been applied to a novel kind of riveting machine. This resembles driven by an explosive mixture of oil the ordinary pneumatic riveter, but is

vapour and air, supplied by a small elecs tric pump. In tests made, the pressure exerted was found to be under perfect con- trol, while the working cost was only a small fraction of that of the usual pro cca. The apparatus is operated by closing the pump-motor switch, when the Pump forces the gas-mixture into the working cylinder, driving the piston for- ward to the rivet, and then accumulating pressure until, at a fixed point, a small plunger opens the motor switch, stopping the pump and at the same time exploding the gases by an igniting device, the sud Writing us on August 17, 1911, Mr. den pressure of the explosion effectively Buckingham says:"My work is conduct-closing the rivet. Without a doubt, Mr. Buckinghamn suffer- ed because his stomach and liver were out of order. If you are seedy," ailing, and out of-sorts, you have pains after eating, headaches, billous attacks, constipation, sleeplessness, nervous," low spirits, you need the stomach and liver tonic, Mother Seigel's Syrup, to cure you as it cured Mr. Buckingham. Mother Seigel's Syrup is made of curative herbal extracts, which tone up and strengthen the stomach and stimulate the action of the liver and bowels. Thus the syrup makes food nourish you, purifies your blood, clears your system of the pro ducts of faulty digestion, and gives you the vigour of health.

A recent advance in photography is simultaneous exposure and development, by which the action of light on certain portions is so modified that the same pic- ture shows good detail in both high lights and deep shadows. After improving the process as first suggested, Ō. Menta, a Corman photographer, has tested it on enlargements, exposing and developing silver bromide paper in an enlarging ap paratus fitted with artificial light and condenser. Before placing in the enlarg- ing camere, the copying paper was first dipped in a developer with glycerine added. A short exposure was given, when a red glass was placed in front of the objective until the development was completed of the shadows, or portions AND CIGARETTES obtainable, consistent with price, strongly illuminated in the negative. The development in the inactinic red light could be easily watched. The paper, being remoistened with a broad brush, was then given a final exposure fifteen times as

DAN ARTIFICIAL PLANT SPECIES. The new species produced by Dr. Louis Blaringhem, Belgian botanist, are claim- ed by him to be not only new but stable. They resulted from experiments with corn, tobacco and other plants, and in cultivation for several generations they have bred true to seed. It is declared, however, that the new forms are not an artificial creation. They were due chiefly. to mechanical disturbances in the plants at critical stages of development, and they represent simply an acceleration of evolution.

A CONSTANT BATTERY. The new electric primary battery of Stephen Benko, of Budapest, which has been attracting much attention in Europe, is made to give an undiminished current for a long time by the continuous fow of the electrolyte through the very porous carbon. This provents the so- called polarization, or the deposit on the negative element of a thin film of gas that speedily slows down the ordinary voltaic cell. The carbon is given the form of a dat tube surrounding the zinc plate and suit- ably closed at the ends, the whole being contained in a lead outer chamber. En-

trance and overflow pipes conduct tho electrolyte-a bichromata solution- which reaches the sino through the carbon on its way through the cell. A lead-lined tank above the battery supplies the liquid, and is given zufficient height to produce, a steady flow. Each coll, weighing about pounds, measures 11 by 6 inches, with height of 9 inches. It yields about 25 amperes at 1.5 volts, and is claimed to have great advantages for laboratory work, telegraphy, and even lighting coun try houses. One estimate is that a bat tery for 60 ten-candle metal filament lamps would cost 8100, the running pense comparing favourably with that of accumulators.
