-sensation, but life is made miserable by depression of spirits. The liver is torpid and the kidneys are partially moper ative, and you feel languid and weak. The disease is in the blood, and wheg the system is not cleansed through the usual channels Nature asserts herself
and forces portions of the impurities through the skin in the form of Pimples, Boils and Blotches. External remedios... powders, ointments, lotions..... only alleviate; they do not get at the cause. Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills get at the cause by removing the disease": from the Blood. They cleanse the system by stimulating the liver and strengthening the kidneys, which filter the Blond and drive out the impure matter through the bowels.

Passion in Morocco. By CHARLOTTE CAMERON. London: Stanley Paul & Co. A steamship with a number of English tourists visited Mazagan. Amongst the tourists were an English lady and her neice, Lillies Layland-Norton, Another passenger by the steamer was Prince Mohammed et Yumar, a cousin of the Sultan of Morocco, who had been educated at Oxford and was now returning to his native land. He was all a prince ought to be handsome, strong, well-educated, devout, altogether a fine speci- men of humanity and possessed of a magnetic personality. He falls in love with Lillias, and when she is isolated from the rest of her party and kidnapped in Mazagan he rescues her, only to carry her off as a prisoner of love into the desert. He woos her and is repulsed. His chivalrous conduct] breaks down the reserve of the English girl, and when he is almost killed by a Bedouin raider in defending her, love wells up spontaneously in her heart and she willingly agrees to their marriage by Moslem rites. When her aunt, now Lady Clanmorris, follows her into the desert and seeks to persuade her to return * civilisation," Lillias has some scathing things to say with regard to so-called Christian husbands. The charming story ends on a tragic note. While the argument" is not altogether convincing, the setting of the story is quite Oriental, and it is told with a smoothness and simplicity which is very acceptable. Hodson's Voyage. By W. H. KORE...

When Herbert Hodson, known to his intimates as Bert, stepped on board the steamer Pegoric in London docks, he had no idea of the good time he was to have on the voyage to Australia. A successful salesman with a Cheapside firm, he had been selected as commercial traveller to push the sale of handkerchiefs and ladies underwear in the Australian colonies. His baggage included a hand-bag of a distant relative of his wife, Lieut. E. J. N. Powerly, 16th Hussars. To Lord and Lady Looseton and their party, he became Lieut. Powerly, and this was the beginning of a series of amusing adventures such as surely never fell to the good fortune of the intentional masquerader. For it must not be forgotten that Hodson's impersonation of another man was quite unintentional. It will be easy for our read. ers many of them connected with the services and all acquainted with the manners and customs of good society "to imagine the curious situation likely to arise from a linen draper's attempt to pass as a cavalry officer. To details they must go to Mr. Koebel's novel, and we can assure
them they will find it refreshingly amusing.
May Little holds now the same proud pre-eminence that Mrs. Becton did a genera tion ago and Meg Dod la the days of our grandmothers as a teacher of the noble art of cooking a nourishing and relishing dinner. Notwithstanding all our grumbling we in Hongkong may search the wide world o'er and not find a place where a better or more varied menu can be had or better cooking,. and that at a fer lower cost, than in most places. Being on the borderland where the tropics and temperate zone meet we can get almost everything in the way of food to be had in any part of Europe (except that the supply of game is rather limited and much which cannot be procured there or anywhere not near the tropics. This was admitted by Colonel Newnham Davies, the great gastronomic authority, whom ald residents will remember as having lived for some years in: Hongkong. But while we have the new food and have the cooks there; has hitherto remained the daily perplexity of what to order. This need is no longer, as Mr. Werner Laurie has just published" The Dinner Calendar," price one shilling, which gives 365 Seasonable Menus, printed on large paper, a month on a sheet, so that it can be hung up in a convenient place. All the housekeeper has to do is to look for the date and read it out to the cook. The Calendar serves as an index to May Little's "A Year's Dinners" published by the same firm at six shillings, which gives plain instructions as to how the raw material should be prepared for table. The publisher saysThis Calendar removes all these per- plexities. A dinner is arranged for each day of-the year. All things as they come in. season are brought in. Variety is secured, economy is considered, and every dinner is carefully thought out and pinned to save the housekeeper worry and trouble,” Buy and try.

Comtelburo Business Calendar, 1972.-Lon-
dor: Comtelburo, Ltd.
This is one of these books which oner they find their way into a business office are found to be well-nigh indispensable. It is described as a business man's reference book, and to the man who has commercial interests outside his own country the pub lication is most valuable. For instance, in the calendar section proper are the dates according to the Western system of reckon ing, the old style (as in Russia) Chinese Moslem, Hebrew, Hindu, and Parsi, while the holidays in the countries of the world are noted. There are useful tables con- cerned with the coinage, weights and mea sures, and different commodities of the various countries.
The Most Valuable Weapon
in the Fight against
Consumption.
Pelham House. Pelham Square, Brighton. Dear Sirs,I have been suffering for several years past from tuberculosis, first of the langs and subsequently of the larynx, and it is impossible for me to speak too highly of the extraordinary effect your preparation has had upon me during this terrible condition. It has not only checked the wasting, decreased the cough and lowered the irritation of the tuber, but has greatly increased my digestive powers, so that I have been able to assimilate a greater amount of nourishment. I say distinctly (and the medical men who have been and are attending me, hold the same opinion), that Angier's Emulsion is the most valuable weapon in the fight against consumption. You may roler whomsoever you please to mo.--(Signed) HILARY SHERBROOK.
ANGIERS EMULSION
ENDORSED BY THE MEDICAL PROFESSION:
We, of course, do not claim that Angler's Emulsion is a certain cure for consumption, but we do claim most emphatically that (in the words of Mr. Sherbrook) it is the most valuable weapon in the fight against this dread disease. We have abundant evidence of the highest character to substantiate our claims, but the most convincing evidence of all is the fact that Angier's Emulsion is prescribed by leading lung specialists, and is used in the hospitals and sanatoria for consumption. Nearly all doctors now recommend Angier's Emulsion not only in consumption, but for lung troubles generally, and for wasting and digestive disorders.
