That "prevention is better than cure" is a truth which the medical profession is daily impressing upon the public. Although it has been partly learnt, rauch remains to be done before common descases are exterminated, as. Typhus Fever, Cholera, and other virulent plagues have been banished from European countries. In China, of course, the danger of infections discases is still very great, and It therefore behoves us to take every reason-Britomart, gunboat, 710 tons, 900 h.p, Lical able precaution for safeguarding against them.
Most infectious diseases are caught through inhaling germs. If the germs did not exist, thoses diseases would be unknown. As, however, germs do exist, everyone should guard against their inroads, for they multi- ply so rapidly that a few become millions in a short time. That is why germ diseases produe their results so rapidly. germs are destroyed early in their attack, most-nay, all of the suffering they cause

If the
The first symptom of many infectious di seases like Diphtheria, Measles, Scarlet Fever takes the form of sore and ulcerated throat; hence the gravity of the epidemic on which is at present raging. sore throat through many parts of China. Yet, if taken early, sore throats which would develop into some dangerous throat disease like Dipht- heria, can easily be cured.
Doctors have long been convinced that gargles will not do this, for they rarely reach the places where they are most required, i.e., the back of the throat and behind the tunsils. Besides, the act of gargling irritates the inflamed and diseased parts, which should be kept absolutely quiet to ensure a rapid oure. What is needed, therefore, is some thing which will kill the germs and yet keep the inflamed parts at rest.
Science has at last discovered such a pre- paration. It is the most powerful germ de stroyer known, and acts rapidly and surely, yet sa harmless that young children e take it without the least danger...
