SUCCESS IN BUSINESS.

AN INSTRUCTIVE ADDRESS..

O'ti ued from yesterday's issue)

TI-EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONE. The educational qualifica'ions"requisito for success in business, thonga trested last, are no Toss important, but form the neosmary, supple. ment to thosa personal qualifications upon which I have been laying stress. These educational, qualifications I prefer to treat of as:

(a) General; and

(b) Special.

General. By general educational qualifion. tions I mean those which apply generally and equally to any position in life, whether pro fessional, or commercial, or technical, and which "have no direct training for either. Genaral education of the most thorough and useful character must form the basis on which to build a special education.

Special. These are days of specialisation, and tho special qualifications to which I will refer are these which have a direct bearing on the fatureof the students. These may be classi fied se

1. Professional, such as are suited to prepare students to become lawyers, clergymes, school- mastoms, or to enfor the military, naval or civil Bervices, etc,

I. Teohnical, suited to the manufacturer of all textile fabrics, chemicals and other market- able commodities, to the engineering. the iron and stoel trades in all their ramifications, the shipbuilder, the electrician, etc.; and

iii. Commercial, as essential rrinisites for the merchant and trader, the banker and ship. Owners, or their agents and assistants

Of these thres Glasses of special educational. qualifications I am not concerned this even- ing with the last, fret, house it is east pro vided fer by our educational anthorities, and is consequently the most neglected, and escondly, because it the one most closely allied to the car- vers with which you and I are concerned. It is al as well to bear in mind that, of the Varions classes. of specialised education Commercial Education is paramount, insemneh without commerce maan. factures would be more or less formùnt, and many of those engaged in the professions would

like Othello-find their occupations gone. In order to understand the special adventional qualifications, and the standard of efficiency required, one must consider the various positions which occur in business houses, and bear-in mind. at the standard of efficiency varies materially according to such position, as well as in the various class of bu fness concerned:

The chief positions in most business houses

are those of:

(a) Junź ws, which inclade office boya na well en

junior clerk.

(b) Seniors, including senior clerks both general and correspondence, book keeper, representatives, moretaries, heads of depart ments, and managers'jand

e) Masters or Principals.

The qualifications for junior positions, ju addition to a good general edation, should be good rapid handwriting and spelling, both of whichshould be, but Imgret fossy rano taught efficiently under general education, English ing and French mathe in srithmetic for

OF German.

For senior positions, I would advise the same qualifications as for juniors, but married to a more advanced stage, with the addition of s second foreign language, mathematics, commer- cial and industrial law, banking, accountancy, insurance, exchange, political economy, and commercial bistory. The degree to which those aubjects should be taken. must depend on the importance of the respectivo senior positions I bare mentioned.

The master or principal of a business, sboald possess a knowledge equal to, if not greater than, that of any member of his alaff, and be fully again ed with money and the exchanges finance, commercial products generally, sad the various markets of the world; he should be quick in forming judgment; be should be able unerringly to pisce his finger on any law in bin organisation and have's) keen scent for may 1 oges er individual losses of custom; he should have the bump of initiative highly developed to enable him always to fill any lost position by naw captures; the ideal lender in fact must be gifted with s special sense to discover pay. chological moments, be a stern logician, even. tempered and unexcitable, and be able if occasion call for it to moet credit-shaking dis. asters with the inscrutable countenance of a Sphinx.

As to the standard of efficiency in business for the various positions referre to, one can only speak in general terms, This should bol such that in whatever position you may be placed, whether

NEWBRO'S HERPICIDE

"I am sending you my photograph to show what Newbro's Herpiolde has done for me. Since I first tried Herpiside upon my hair I have used it exsinairely in giving scalp treatments to others, and I would not think of trying to get along without it."

2807, Archer Ave., Chicago, Ill.

(Signed) Mes. ANNA CONNER.

Hundreds of Lily scalp specialists and hair dressers use and recommend Newbro's Herpioide, lestad of products of their own manufacture upon which a much larger profit could be made They claim thit Horpioide makes friends for them sal gives much better satisfaction. Some hair dressers use Herpiaide for obstinate cases only, but why not use the best fist?

Herpicide is a delightful dressing, that can be used when there is no disease of the hair or scalp, and as su actual remedy for dandra, itching scalp and falling hair it atande in a class singularly its own.

Many ladies object to a gummy and sticky hair dressing, or one that is full of sedimentary chemicals intended to dye the hair. The marked preference for a clein and dainty preparation, particularly one that overcomes excessive oiliness and enves the hair light and faffy, is reflected in the enormous sale of Newbro's Herpioide. Discriminating ladies become anthusiastic over its refreshing qudity and exquisite fragrance. It stops itching of the scalp almost instantly.
