THE EMBROIDERED GOWN.

Quito a new departure were the white silk amalin gowns ombroidered Chinese fashion with garland in white anl'coloured floss silks, and another novelty was the 1830 gown carried ant in toile de Jouy, and trimmed with little Barrow fringes in old rose or old blue, which appeared to race up and down the gown, as a child or a butterfly might, without any apparent mark of design. Among other novellies were ennshades in velvet covered. with sprawling painted flowers, red and white shoes and stock. ings worn with white gowns, and one or two gowns in very vivid colours trimmed with black jet. Scintillating in the sun, these black beads positivaly hurt the eyes.

SOME OF THE HÁTS.

A fow of the best dressed women had their large, shady, crinoline or tegal hats trimmed

with lingerie, little frills edged with lace, generally Valenciennes. The towers trimming
