Pneumonia and Pleurisy After Effects,
Wasting and Weakness-
Happy and cheerful with abundance of energy and good spirits, is how Miss Danford describe herself from the day she commenced to take Phosferine. Yet before she found relief in Phosfering words failed to express the miserable torments cle endured from the effects of peumonia and pleurisy, the aches, steeplessness, neuralgia, and wasting, which even ductors failed to repotdy. No wonder Miss Dunford feels (after two years of such suffering without case or rest for the body) that Phosferine has given her a new and better case of life," for she declares it is entirely owing to Phosferine that she is actively busy again. Every overwrought wage-earning woman will find a message of hope in Miss Dunford's experience, with its splendid assurance of renewed nervous vitality, and absolute prevention of tissue wasting,
Completely Overcome.
Miss Daisy Dunford, High Street, Shrewton, Wilts, writes: "I have found Phosferine to be a wonderful remedy. Some two years ago I had pueumonia and pleurisy, which left me with terrible pains in my back and legs. Two doctors prescribed for me, but gave me not the slightest relief. 1 could not sit, lie down, or sleep, on account of the incessant agony, and. I became so exceedingly weak and wasted that my friends were seriously alarmed. My appetite failed, and the little food I ate caused indigestion; my life was nothing but a prolonged torture. The doctors said it was a form of neuralgia and sciatica, but the words do not convey any idea of my fearful state. I thought I would give Phosferine a trial, which I did, and after taking it for a little while, the pains were not nearly so acule, and finally left me altogether. I regained flesh, Felt stronger, the indigestion entirely disappeared, and now, thanks to its marvellous aid, my health and strength, is completely restored. I cannot put into words my gratitude for the good Phosferine has done me, for I feel it has given me a new and better lease of life."

IN OTHER LIGHT THAN OURS,
A suggestion of the strange things we may seo when photography by invisible light becomes common was given the other day at the London Royal Institution by Prof. E. W. We American physicist. He has taken photographs with a thisly silvered quartz lons, which is op que to visible light but transparent te ultra violet, and the lows thrown ou a screen with corresponiling picturós with visible light showed some striking contrasts. White garden flowers wore black in the new photograpla. Glas windows, semed perfectly opaque, oud,a man in full sunlight cast' no skadow- proving that the ultra-violet raya are diffused by the almo, sphere andreach us from the sky instead of dixeo from the san. Ultra-violet pictures of the moon show around Crator Aristarchus a vast black deposit that is scarcely visible in ordinary photo- graphs. In altar-violet views, the air around an electric spark appears luminous and invali gation bus proved that some obscure radiation.
·of the spark excites a phosphorescence of the air. In 8-meremurkable landscapes token with infra- red rays, the sky is of midnight Backness and the foliage snow-whiti.
A GAB-CINE URING COAL
Au internal combustion engine using coal has been under trial by A. M. Low, of London. A number of parallel pipis pass through a chamber heated by the exhaust gases and through the back of the combustion chamber and a scrow feed pushes powdert d coal through- these heated pipes. The gas given off pawes to a small gas-Lelder, with pipes ending under a water ken). The gas is drawn into the cylinder by suction, and one brake borse-power- hour on less than 0.4 pennd of ecal on short continuous rons is a result claimed.
THE NEW EARTH, THEONY
From the varying tan mission of earthquake vibrations, Prof. Weichert concludes that the earth's core le a mass of iron crelcel 5,580 miles in dit weeter, This is surrounded by a stony rhell 930 miles thick, sround which is a liquid ov plastic layer with an cuter limit abou: 20 miles bolow the surface.
NOVEL FIRE DAMI SIGNALLING.
The automatic current shut off of two British engineers is designed to stop the electricmater of mines when fre-dump is present, its action depending on the curious property of platitum of condensing bydrogen on its surface and bes coming heated, in the process. Two slightly separated stripe of dissimilar metals- such 06 irou and brattare placed in the motor cireuil. One strip is connected with a coil of peper. the other with a coil of platinum, and under normal conditions the ourront passing through those coils and the strips heats the latter about equally, so that they bond similarly, without toaching. But in the presence of fire-damp, which is chiefly light carburetted hydrogen, the platinum becomes heated, its resistance being thas increased, so that less than the usual surrent passer to ore of the parallel strips. This Cause the strip to cool and contract, so that it tonches the other, closing a circuit, and operat ing sent out to stop the motors, at the same time lighting a red light or ringing a ball. It is asserted that 2 per cont. of five domp can be detected, an alarm being given much mor promptly than by any other method.
THE MAGNET. IN MINING.
The picking up of iron ore and loading it into cars for the crushers is a rather unlooked
for use of the electro-magnetic crane. It is
MAGNETON.
The electron, or unit of electricity, is now ampposed to form a material part of the stems of the various ofsamonte, and Pierre Welas has attempted to prove that a similar particle, which he calls the "mayneton," in the unit of magnetism. In testing his theory he has made numerous expérimenta on viag netization at very low temperatures. He has found confirmation of his view, and believes Le has shown the presence of magneton in tho atoms of iren, nickel, cobalt copper, mangansse, and the metals of the rare-earths.
BOMBS OF OZONE
Ball lighting, in' which gassons globes of clotrically storel energy ozpiedo with great violence, las not been easy to explain:
The
new theory of W. N. Thornton in that the balls are chietly ozone in an un-table condition. and, aside from other evidence, it is concluded that the cuorgy liberated by ozone clangan to oxygen is sufficient to account for the fiml bursting of the Greball.

NOVEL COPYING,
The new photographic printing described to the Paris Academy of Sciences by M. De Fon tenny has the curious peculiarity of exposing the entire sensitive plate, but is claimed to make fog-free pictures on the under side, and to be especially adapted for reproducing book pagas engravings and manuscript.. The reproductions may be made even from paper printed on both sies. The consitive plate is placed in an or dinary printing frame, with the glass side out. ward, and the page to be copied is put on the other side, in contact with the emulsion. Ou exposure, the black parts of the page absorb the light almost completely, the white portions reflecting the light to the corresponding parts of the sensitive emulsion». The plate is developed by any ordinary devel epar, and the print is much like that produced by the usual method, Bad, grea or yellow light is needed for exposures, blue and violet having failed. It is expected that the process will prove valuable for making accurate fall sized copies, and will be specially `useful in libraries, and to persons wishing to copy docu. monta when travelling.
