INTIMATION

We can prose to you by facts and figores that it always pays to buy a REMINGTON TYPEWRITER.

We can prove to you that this would be equally trav if the price of the REMINGTON TYPEWITER were many times what it is.

In other words, if you get another machine gratis, you would still many times better afford to buy a REMINGTON.

LAUNCH OF THE BRITISH

NAVAL AIRSHIP, DESCRIPTION OF THE VESSEL.

BARROW-IN-FURNESS, May 22. At 4.10 this morning the naval airship was towel from her shed. The weather was idon), and in less than an hour the dirigible was made fast to her moorings in the centre of the 'Cav endish Dook.

Working with absolute prevision, under the direction of Captain M. F. Snoter, Inspecting Captain

of Airships, were parties of also upon ICD bloojackels and Marines from the craiser Hermione. As early sa 3 am, the cartain at the entrance of the shed was drawn nside. At 3.30 the final staging holding the airship war removed, and she was allowed to rest upon the

t-shaped caze or water, supported gondolas under hor hall. The various launch

snow took up their stations. A cable ing parties now

bed overnight boon stretched along the surface of the dock from the back of the shed to a buoy well out towards the contre of the dock, and at a signal from Captain Suster the

the crew, who were in the airshi, bers of

вежем

gondolás,

assisted by bluejacketa in boats attached to the sides of them, began to hand upon the table, and the dirigible mored evenly from her shed staru first at about a walking peace. is she emerged she was leidd stealy on either side by. parties of men who were stationed on ponteons and who handled ropes fired to her hull. In little more than ave minutes, so dexterously was she handled, the inship floated clear of ber shed. Now, for the first time, the details of hor constraction could be appreciated.

DETAITA OF CONSTRUCTION.

The hull of the airship, which is exactly 512ft. in length, is slightly blant at the bow and tapere away Baely at the stern, being as a matter of fact, precisely in the "stream line" form found most suitable for minimizing wind resistance by the texts of the National Physical Labora

The framework of the bull, constructed tory. of "duraitinin," is sheathed completely with

special fabrio. This is waterproof aud tght, and has been treated externally with a paint which resists the action of light and

Pro tects the gas-containing ballonsttos frem er- pansion and contraction due to atmospheric changes. In color the hall is a metallic silver grey opon its apper half and has a yellow tint en its lower side. This contrast in colour is caused by a variation in the treatment of the fabric, the leht rays from above and the dang

by two different processes,

The framework is so arranged that the hull of the airship is 12 aided. In the framework are the 17 ballonettes, each one being in a sepa rate compartment, Altogether they coutin more than 700,000 enbic feet of hydrogen, with

lifting offect equal to 21 fons. The two gondolas are each about 25ft, in length, and are made of polished wood. They are suspended, fore and aft, elose up under the hall Ly means af metal rods, mi are conected by a covered-in passage-way, which provides in its contre the quarlors of the airship's crow.

THE PROPELLING MACHINERY,

In aach gondola is a Wolseley-Siddolor petrol motor developing 200-horse power. Ibres pro pellers in all drive the airship. On either side of the fore gondo's is plaod a four-bladed propeller, while a two-bladed propeller, lar, or ihan either of the others, is axed immediately behind the rear gondela A clutch mechanism is fitted in connection with both power plaute, so that the engines may be ran without actuat ing the propellers.

The control of the airship is effected by means of a serier of horizontal and yestical rudders, which bare the appearance of box kite. To obtain upward and downward movement are

sets of horizontal radders, two attachod under the vessel's bow and two others on either side of her stem. Lateral movement is obtained by three more sots of planes arranged vertically. Iwo of these are placed above and below the stern, and a third-smaller than the other, two-under the hall just aft of the rear gondola. The airship also has four fixad planes or fine at her stern to incieuse her stabl lily. As she lies on the surface of the water the lifting effect of the talloneties is noutralized by a gurntity of water ballast which is carried
