KOWLOON CLUB

V.R.G. ANNUAL ATHLETIC SPORTS.

The fourteenth annual athletio meeting of the istoris Recreation Club took place on the ground of the Hongkong Football Club at Happy Vallay on Saturday aftermon by kind permission of the committee of the latter Club. Although a trifle warm, it was an ideal day for outdoor sport, and one to tempt spectators to a. field of friendly rivalry. As a consequence, b large attendance assembled in the matched and around the enclosure, numerous ladies in flimsy and attractivo summer attire availing themselves of the invitation of the committee, and adding to the ploturesqueness and animation of the scone which the flag bedocked fleld, presented. Tho band of the 8th Rajpats, ander Tandmaster da Souza, played pleasing selections of music during the afternoon.

The sports officials were tireless in their efforts to maintain the standard of BIKES which T.R.C meetings hara acquired, and the indefatig ablo secrojary of the Club, Mr. Frank Lammert, and Messrs. G. W. Aveneli and (7. Lesbirel deserve special commendation fortle lion's share of the work which they undertook as a labour of love. The only unsatisfactory feature of the meeting was the poor number of entries in most of the events, but the shortage of competitors did not detract from tho enthusiasm prevailing. There was some good sprinting in the flat races," in which Mr. J. F. Castro a prominent, and be thoroughly deserved the trophies which he won and the applause which he gained for hím splendid Achievements. Mr. D. McGras was tho champion wheelman of the meeting, and not- pewithstanding his stiff handicap he won the two

and three mile bicycle races with comparative casa. In the first event George Lee, who started with McCrae from scratch, camo
