"HOW TO THREAD A NEÉÏLE." This operation so simpla in youth is frequently troublesvine to ladies not quite so young as they used to be, and also to those who are short sighted. “I came noross a solution of the troublo which is simplicity itself and may be useful to some of your rentiers writes a correspondent of the Copion paper.Tho plan is this. _ Haro magnifying or reading glass mounted on a little standard on the table by which the work TJIMAHI is being done, When theo needle is to be thread- ed hold the hands under the glass, and tho need- le-threading is accomplished the first time of trying.
THE HUSBANDETTE,
Americs las defined the other half of the Sufragist. He is the husbandette. This title has sprung into instant popularity, and has gome to stick. Tik husbando to is the kind of man who is terrons by his wife, and who, though esaretly opposed to, or indifferent to, giving the franchise to woman, nevertheless.is afraid to argue the matter with his wife. The husbandette remains at home, perhaps fartively smoking a forbidden pipe indsors, while his wife is out in the steels giving a public exhibi- tion of a baging match with constables. A busbaulette never holds an opinion, frora tie odour of 'n oigar to the colour of cktie, which differs from the opinion of his wife,
THE GERMAN CROWN PRINCE.
The Crown Prince's first experiences as a traveller, says the Englishman, were somewhat different from those which he is now enjoying in the East. From his fourteenth year, his summer holidays were always spent in walking tours through Germany. These hooccomplished in the true & wandorbusche " style with s knapsack on his back, and sleeping at roadside inns. At first he was accompanied only by his military governor, Colonel von Falkenkeyn, bat latterly two of his brothers joined him. The strictest incognito was always prosorvol, the Kaiser being of opinion thumb his sons, travelling on foot and with no indication of their rank, would obtain a knowledge of the people which they could never acquiro in any other way..
THREE WEEKS ON A DEHEUT ISLAND, News reached Plymouth last month from „Albany; Western Australia, from the survivors of the British, steumor Parisica, which was burned at sea, flro lives being cst. The. rescued me who have reached Albany, were pickel up on the desolate St. Fani Island, to which they escaped in boats. The Parisiana left New York on October 29 for Melbourne. Fire broke out on December 13, and for four days the crew fonght the flames, but the fire was too much for them, and the mou reached the island practically destitate, and after enduring terrible hardships. For two days they werent son in open bonts. High seas were running, and it was bitterly cold. While drifting about thres of the man died from exposure, and eno was buried at sta, The last two budim were buriel on St. Paul Island, graves boing dng with flints found on the abora. Soon after landing on the island the sailors discovered a stone house, built 18 Joars ago, and filled with provisions by the crew of the French warship Eure, The castaways foźnd in case and irou-kooped barrels preserved meat, biscuits, woollen clothing, Blankets, and matches. Fire was kept burning night arul day, and the food was carefully apportioned. The men were also able to kill some birds, and these, with many eggs found on the island, were their chief sustenance. Night. and day the uraw took turns watching for u passing vossal, and on January 11 the steamer British Transport was sighted, and the men were taken off. Men
