Hou. Treasurer--Mr R. C. Edwards. Clark of the Course-Mr T. F. Hough, Bosutiful weather prevailed for the secondl day of the Jockey Club's manual meating, and the attendance, if not a record one, was at least as large as in previous years, The, sunny day brought the ladies out in all their racing finery, and the grandstand was a moving picture of pretty faces and handsome frocks. Yesterday was Derby day, and thoraco for the blue riland added to the importance of the meeting. Ex- Pectations of a foen struggle for the coreted honour were not disappointed, and the represon- tatives of four stables were announced as chim ants. It was generally considered that the event would be an open one, and those who sought to increase their interest in this classic race by having a flutter" wore considerably ex proised as to a choice of the colours on which they should seek a win. Coronation Rose was a hot favourite, but Auchendon and Willow Tren
neck and neck race between Cumming and Vida took place, but in the straight Burkill's mount went to the front and Blackmore Vals challenged, but was not able to snatch the honour from the Rose.

great mass of Caratang."
Dr. Wolleston wives a graphic account of the difficulties daily encountered by his colleagues and himself. Ho says:At the first camping place, an island in the middle of a river. I was nearly washed away by a food, but luckily lost nothing of importsace but one boot. The natives threatened all the time to go back, leaving me and a Gurkha and precious loads, and it took: all my patience and enjoling to persuade them to stop.
The going is horribly bad.. To-day I have 23 rivers and streams of varions sizes
ant swiftness. Some of them would have our ried me off my fast and down to tho gia but for two stalwart natives holding me up.
