WHAT BEING "RUN.DOWN" MEANS.

A ROYAL PHYSICIAN'S STATEMENT, In spite of all the ordinary precautions people tako to safeguard their health and the cars they habitually use in selecting their proper food, the time comes, sooner or later, when they feel m018 or less "sinok," run-down, and bołow par.

Without enquiring the reason, people in- stinctively know that they wood a tonic. The difficulty is to determine what tonic to use, fox, Da everyone is atrave, most tonise, though they stimulate for the moment, have a depressing

after nffest.

Tioro is no such drawback with Sanatogen, which doctors universally call "the Tonic-Food with Lasting Effects," house the gratifying sensation of health and wollbeing it imparis continues long after it has ceased to be taken.

It is univerally amitted that nothing so admirably fills the needs of those who require a tonio us Sanutogen. The reason is that it not only improves the nutrition of the physical side of the body, but it also exercises a beneficial sway over the brain and nervous system, and has a profound inflaenon in improving the quantity and quality of the red blood corpuscles, which are such potent factors in maintaining the health at its highest point.

In this connection Professor Tobold, who was Physician-in-Ordinary to the late Emperor Frederic, writes: "Sanatogon has proved itzólf to be an adinirable dietotic preparation in patients of mine whoso nutrition was much below par"

EXHAUSTIVE REPORTS.

The plans prepared for the new liners haro boon made after long consideration

The music gallery is also a handsome building, but its appearance has been somewhat spoiled by certain inodoru growths, notably by various domestic offices. which might wall ho removed. The Rang Mahal, at one time a part of the royal zonant, is now used as an officers' moss- room, and it is believed that some of the coloured

and thoroughinquiry. For the past two years re-decorations for which it was famous could still ports have boon made by the different mosters of the trans-Pacific staamera concerning the cond tions prevailing at the various ports of call, and the nature of the business procurable. Similar reports have bem made by the Atlantic lives, and after careful consideration plous'were made some time ago. Tu Araz set of plans provided I did not meet with the approval of the directors, and a new set WAS prepared and accepted, and teudors were invited by Mr. Piorenpon those at various British shipbuilding contres. These were the tenders aubraitted to the directors of the C. P. R. at Montreal a week ago. It is generally sub mitted that the plans provide for vessels which will be superior to any now in service from Canadian ports on the Atlantic er Pacific.

MORE SPEED-MORE SILK.

The C. P. R. Empress of the Pacific load at present in carrying the silk trade from Japan, and with faster steamers running across the Pacifle will secure a still greater amount of this trade, speed, being the chief requisite. The freight charged on this business” is no less than six cents a pound between Yokohama and New York; and it is a paying business. The Empresste at one time secured the bulk of the passenger traffic across the Pacific from Oriental ports, but since the entry into the Pacific trade of the larger Facile Mail liners, the Siberia, Korea, Manchuria pad Mongolia, much of this business has beon diverted. The Empresses still hold the record for the fastest time across the Pacific, and with the coming of the newer - Empresses, with nacommodation superior to that of the Pacific Mail ressels, it is probable that they will handle a large amount of the saloon travel,

EMPRESS HOLDS RECORD.

The Pacific oord is held by the R.M.S. Empress of Japan, which made the voyage len ↑ years ago trón, Iskokawa to Vistoriaa dis- fauce of 4.200 milos-in ten days and on hours. The Korea about four years agofuade the trip from Yokohama on a forced run with special stokers and picked coal'in ten days and oleven hours. These times haro not boen equalled, With the cing of the new Empresses quicker times are expected. Those now in service aro operated at an average speed of about fifteen knots, making the run in twelve days. With a speed of 18 knots an hour the voyage would be made in ten days, which, with the difference in time, would mean about nine calendar days for the ran from Yokohama to Victoria...

BRADT IN 1912.

The new liners of the C.P.R. are to be ready for service by the spring of 1912, when itis anticipated that changes wil be made in the Atlantic and Pacific services, which will result in a much more frequent, and faster ser- vice being girea betwecu Hongkong and London by way of Victoria and eastern Cana diau ports.

Another trans-Pacific service which is to be improred sliortly also is the Canadian Australian Uno, the development of this service being sub- ject to the arrangements to be made next month when Sir James Mills, manager of the line, con- fers with the Australian Government with regard to the ner mail contrust. If the arrangements are satisfaetery orders will be given for the constraction of two steamers of 12,000 tons capacity, provided with the best of moderu passenger accommodation, superior to chat of the steator Makura. Plans for the Jiners have been made.

THE KING'S VISIT TO DELHI.

CHOICE OF HEADQUARTERS.

News from India shows that the greatest in- terest is being taken in the forthcoming visit of the King for the Coronation Darbar. For some time pest the question of the most suit- able place for his Majesty's headquarters at Delhi has been debate. When the King and Queen, as Prince and Princess of Wales, visited that city in Desember, 1905, they were lodged at the Circuit Honse, built by Tord Curzou, but it is now considered that this is scarcely an ideal Imperial residence, and attention is being given to the possibility of rendering the Palace of the Mogul Emperors a mitable lodging for King

George. Keen interest has been displayed in this ion by the native population, and, should it be capable of execution, it would be a noble token of the continuity of the Indian Empire,

The Palace of Delhi, at present more generally spoken of as "the fort," owes its origin to Shal Johan, the most magnifieout of the royal builders quarter of the seventeenth century, largely from of, India, and was erected during the second the materials of the half deserted older city of Sher Shah, Many of the works of the new 24 Maps and Plans, capital were still unfinished at the time when the Emperor was deposed by his youngest son, NORTH WALES. 50 Illustrations,

The halls of public and private audience, the minsic hall, the entrarse, hall, and the Rang Mahal still exist, retaining much of their original splendour, and

Daring Lord Curzon's Viceroyally a great deal was dous in the way of skilful rostoration, and the palace is still a fitting one for the Emperor of India. Should his Majesty be lodged tliers the insident would be one of historic interest, not autouched with political importance. Anything further which might be done towards the restoration of ancient banntios would be equally welcome, and it is fitting to recall certain words of his Majesty's speech on bie prerious vist to Delhi:"The beautiful eity which is in your kasping has been the scene of many stirring incidents and splendid page. auta.
