A well-planned hoox had an amusing result OREGON RAILROAD & NAVIGATION CO. ons rosent Sanday afternoon at a Paris café. A few days ago two advertisements appeared in the newspapers. One of them was supposed to be that of a rich woman who was looking for a young husband who need not necessarily have day money. The other was supposed to be that of a rich man who was looking for a young wife. In this case also there was no need for the woman to have means of her own.

Last year the blue ribbon of the shipbuilding | AMUSING RESULT OF A JOKER'S ADVERTISE industry again went to Ireland. In 1909 Messrs. Workmen, Clark & Co., of Belfast, were the winners. Then much of the available space at Queen's Island had been devoted by Meaars. Harland & Wolff to the laying down of the Olympic sad the Titanic. With the Januch of the Olymplo, of 45,600 tons, Messes. Harland & Wolf now recapture the trophy, with a total of 115,861 tons. Only on very few occasions has the output of any single firm exceeded 100,000. The highest figure was that attained by Merers. Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson in 1906, when among the vessels they launched was the Mauretania.
Answers to these advertisements camo in by hundreds. Hot bad been written by the same persen. To each one of them a reply was sont, asking the man or woman, as the case might be, to meet the "advertiser at the café on Sunday afternoon. It was also request- ed of each man and woman that a white rose

Having made these plans the advertiser then wrote to the police saying that there was to be a big demonstration of Royalists at a certain café on Sunday afternoon. Thirty detectives were on the sceno on Sunday,
