SPORTING NOTES.
The Civil Service Cricket Club hold their annual sports meeting on the Club ground at Happy Valley this attornood, and provided the : weather is fine-which at the time of writing appears extremely doubtful--the sports should provo a saccess. The Band of the Balls have been engaged, and the committee, with their Henal foresight, have made all arrangements passit's for the comfort of guests. The programme arranged embodids-fourteen events, and as there is little time allowed between each, spectators and competitors alike should have a surfeit of sport.
The prospects of League cricket this year are bright, Great onthusiasm prevails among the numerous clubs which intend to enter the League, and the foams are now hard at work at the nots. The Yorkshires, who are to succeed the Buffy hare, will arrive somewhat late, but I understand they will ho permitted to ontor team if they wish. At the Cricket Lease meeting last week much regret was expressed at Mr. A. E. Asgare decision to retire from the post of secretary, & position which he has held since the formation of that body, Cricketers will now bo pleased to learn that Mr Anger lins beau porsaaded to alter his mind. This is indeed satisfactory, for he is a secretary who cannot well be spared,
