The Hamburg-Americs Line.has ordered Ave stomers of 8,000 tons for their East Asia service and two ot'r steamers bailes, in addition to those already building for the Company.

The Clan Line, Glasgow, has placed orders for four vessels with British shipbuilders for thoir (Hasgow, Liverpool, and Eastern Arado. The successful contractors are Stephens & Sons, Glasgow, Oxford & Sons, Sunderland, Armstrong, Whitworth, & Co., Newcastle, and Irving & Co, West Hartlepool. The Anchor Line has also given orders at Glasgow for two vessels of over 8,000 tons for their Eastern service.

On the morning of the 25th ult. the steamer Ryota-maru, 2,521 tons, ou her way from Otarn-, with a full cargo of timber to Yokohams, stranded off Inaboye, outside Tokyo Bay. A large number of lightors were required for discharging the steamer, as she carried a fall cargo, but it was a very difcuit matter to obtain lighters in Tokyo and Yokolismo, as they were being used for the relief of the sufferers from the iaradation.

The C.P.R. steamer Princess May was lost on the 5th instant while bound from Skag way to Vancouver. There were abont: 100 passengers.
