I am ablo to make the Interesting announce ment of the completion of the designs for an entirely new type of airship. It has been named

THE BOTAL ENCLOSURE. No garden is more, brilliant as a rule than the Royal Endosure daring Ascot week. If lobelias and geraniums, rosas, hollyhocks, car nations, sweet peas, and even salonotarias, took to walking about the lawns, they would look wuch as the onslosure does from a distance.Rice Bird. But this year, all the flower beds are in desp black, and the blossoms present rather a forlorn appearance. Il tuo shortened period of mourn well ing bad only abbreviated full mourning as as second mourning, there would have beenn different tale to tall; but as it is, there were only variation of outline and not much of hao, No one wanted to be branded an “outsider "by going to a loyal preserve in the plumage of the golden phaaut; indood, even the cocasional maghio was naplemous in the assemblage of black on Tuesday.

SILHOUETTES AND SENSE. It is high line that the smart woman looked herself By the light of common sense. "Hop, Mary: You'll never catol the train!" orics one tight-akicted girl to another in a Pach skete, and really this is scarcely cariestare. The Grand Stand at Aseet pro- souted many difficulties to ladies in skirts that clang about their foot in smazing wountiness, No less trouble were the enormous hats, which, being nearly all black, prezented rather the appearance of a son of frimmed umbrellas, at the moment of the races. Of course, if veroaily want to look like parachutes, there is no reason why we should not; but we shall soon mood to tie a string our foot to keep oneself on the ground, if bits get much bigger.

The airship has been designed by a famous engineer who is a University professor of engineering. He is one of Chant Zeppelin's right-hand men, and one of his trusted friends. One of his ingenious incantionale for conveying coded messages in war-time, and is supplied to the British Admiralty. This engineer has crossed the Alps in the air on a trip lasting thes days. I am not at libarty yet to mention his

name,

This airship embodies all the best features comprised in the Zeppelin dirigibles, in the Patris and in the Geveva, but its leading ten- tures are wholly now.

In the entire tribe of balloons of the dirigible type the motor had been suspended from a cigar- shaped body oneksing a balloonette and has bean suspended at a considerable distance below this olgar-shaped body. This was the case in the Fatrio, the Liberté, the Republic, Villa de Nancy, and Russie balloons. The result of the anspen- sion of the engine far below the body of the balloon is that the centre of resistance to air- pressure was at to great a distance above the centre of propulsion,

In the Blue Bird airship, which has been designed for Trans-Atlantic work, the holy of the balloon is rendered rigid by the sin- galar formation which turns the keel, as it wera, into the backbone of the airship itself. The airship can varzy inside the keol a orow of ton persone, two angines forward, two enginos aft, and on the under side of the keel, which is 160ft, in length, is a series of immenso petrol

WAISTBELS, COLLARS, AND SLEEVES. Wrists are back where nature pat them, and bo'te have come back to omphasise the fact. Apart from bond and feet (bat the extremi tics are important exceptions), the paddock was fall of figures bearing a strong rusan-reservoirs, blance to human beings. It is a long time since This huge ship offers far less resistance to this has been so; what with Empire, Directoire, progress through the atmosphers than any ship nul Noah's Ark fashions, wo luve been for hitherto constructed; while owing to its ex- long draped after a method having but little re-tremely simple design it can carry more power lation to physiology. Now, however, waists are than any other. Moreover, it is manœuvred with back, sleeves a short, collars are rare, shoulders surprising case. PRETTY FEET AND HIGH HEELS.

It was a wonderful sight tɔ watch Mr. Kipling's face, when the plans of the Blue Bird airship wore laid before him the other day, and to watch the grotal kindling of his enthusiasm. Ho could hardly baliove his eyes, the novelist's own story had been realised by the engineer. It was a case of Adam's dream. "He awoke and found it true.".

a great direnity of footgear, and an appres- n higher round in the predecessors. Letters are pouring into his office supposed to give a smart appearance to the from all parts of the world telling of the benefits fust. It certainly does not improves walls dorived from his advice. Many of his patrons already medy extraordinary by the fashion- look upon him as a man gifted with some strange ble skirt. The back of the shoe comes will up, and frequently the effect is further lighton- et by side-pixes of paler leather than the rest of the shoe, or of constrasting material, much as suelo with leather, Pateur toes and cream leather uppers are coming in with half-mouen ing, but nothing but black was seen ot Ascot.

He is a man of kindly feeling toward homanity, and his manner and tono immediately impress ong with his zivcere belief in his work. A huge slack of grateful letters from people who have received readings from him adds to other convincing proof as to his ability. Eron Astrologers and Palmists admit that his system surpass anything set introduced.

The Rev. G. Hasskar, Ph.D., Pastor of Bt. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, in a letter to Prof. Roxroy, mys"You are certainly the greatest specialist and master of your profession. BUKINS AND SANDALS. The buskin of historio memory is back with as, and although it is more suitable for indoor than outdoor wear, in very fine black suede, embroidered in black, and laced with black ribbon high round the ankle, it might have hea soon in the palbook. It affords a corrective to the high heeled

fashion. Another shou is 30 cut away that it bears a resemblance to a high-heeled sandal, if such an anomaly may be conceived. There is soarcely any covering for the toos, and the abs is hold on by ribbontmoed across and arross the foot For high instorm this is very becoming

FOOTGEAR IN GENERAL While on the subject of shoes one may men tion the divity of evening footgear at the moment. Doing-shoes made of white brocade, with a flowery pattern introducing the colours of the ganty gown, are being worn in Paris. Pinto white main slippers, veiled with fine bluck Chantilly lacs are worn with transparent stock ings whose viole front is a panel of Chantilly. The buckles of the Grand Monargao appear on many evering shoes, and heels are perceptibly lower in thes. The buskin is much in favour in Paris.

WONDERFUL POWERS. Now what are the powers of the Bins Bird: airship for its Transatlantic voyage? It can carry five tons of potrol. It ou stay eighty hours in the air. It can rise to a height of 10,000ft, above the level of the sea. It has a maximum speel of Afty miles an hour; and consequently a radius of action over no less than 4,000 miles, without descending; and it can comfortably carry a orgy of ten persons,

The next remarkable feature of this airship. is that by the construct on of engine

It can use either gas or petrol at the same time or separately; by this means automatically lea soning its weight by using petrol (which it carries na ballast) and then using gas to pra rent the rise which otherwise the decrease in weight would cause This rainforsement of petrol by the use of hydrogen gas is an aby solutely new feature and the resnit of the combination is to increase the radius of setion and distance or light by no less than one-third

Another festars of the Blue Bird airship is that it is not affected by change of tem perature, or hot sun, as have been all pro vious airships, The action of the sun affects the volume of the gas, the action of rain overloads the balloon. But in the Blue Bird airship these two effects are compensated by the regulation, in a single apparatus, of the amount of petrol or gas to be barned in the motor. The pilot has under his hand two entirely indepand- ent means, not only of propulsion, but also of rise and fall.

What will be the result of the completion of this airship? In the frst place, it will put us: (if the English Government take immediate action with a view to acquiring it) on the right road for the
