BENGERS

FOOD

Wherever there is a case of enfeebled digestion, whether from advancing age, illness, or general debility, there is a case for Benger's Food.

When the stomach becomes weakened, the digestion of ordinary food becomes only partial, and at times is painful, Jittle of the food is assimilated, and the body is consequently insuficiently nourished.

This is where Benger's Food helps. It contains in itself the natural digestive principles, and is quite different from any other food obtainable.

All doctors now and approve of its composition, and prescribe it freely. For INFANTS, INVALIDS,

AND THE AGED.

The British Madient Jumal" says: Banger's Food has, by its cxcellence, established a reputation of its own.”

OLE AGENTS IN HONGKONG:

FASHIONS AND FANCIES.

TME. JOSEPERIER GOWN.. The Empress Josephine could never live har gowns tight enough; she must have worried the modiste of the Empire partod by her exigencies in this respect. But even she was cantant without drawing in the skirt behind the knees or behind the ankles under a band of trimming or material, What to it is impossible to preilichtgown is coming stage reflects the fashions very faithfully, and at least two London thestras the tight skirt is to be seen in its apotheosia. In The Dollar Princess! the dresses are so excessivoly tight as to scandaliga that portion of the audience which is fresh from the country anil ansecustomed to this particular vagery of fashion, At the Savoy, Princess Cynthin is invested with a gown so tight that in needs all the innate and acquired grace of the charming wearer to enable her to ascend three steps without apparent effort. The triumph of this can only be understool by those who have had an opportunity of witnessing the achievement,

THE TIE-EACH DOWN: Unfortunately a graceful gait does not come by nature to overybody, and cannot oven be acquired by all, so that in ordinary life these tie-book genus are often productive of grotesque results. The tie-backs of the eighties were satirised in funch, and condemned by the "nice people with nasty ideas" who seem to pre. ponderate in a critical world. In the gown of today the Victorian tie-back is utterly unneces- sary, the skirt being made to it the figure as Mrs. Grundy wooll over have permitted it to do a generation since. Whather this exignity of drapery will inernang or diminish with the advent of fair weather and flimsy frocks, it is hard to say.

DRESSES FOR DANCER.

The dancing dress of the hour may be either long or short not very long, but certainly quite short. This may sourd cryptic. It merely means that trains are very moderate, and that skort buli-gowns finish at the ankles. It is quite curious to watch the Terpsichorean couples as they roroive, every third gown us short as a schoolgirl's, in every way concise as a telegrams, The favourite ball-gown of the momentis made of thin silk or satin, with an overdress of some tras parent material in contrasting colour. For instance, a very lovely gown consists of crocus maure satin, with a Boating tunic of palest Nils greu. Another good contrast is found in a doll blue silk with a light blue ninon tanio drupal obliquely across the front, and falling in a short train at the back. A short gown in white chiffon is border with passementario. The fulness of the front of the bodies is held at the waist with n pointed ornamant in gold and jewels, ending in a gold fringe. With this should be worn a narrow gold band round the hair, and if scarves were not rapidly disappear ing, a gold embroidered Liberty scarf would be the Losthetic supplement.

THE TEMPESTUOUS PETTICOAT. Like the snakes in Iceland, the tempestuous petticoat does not exist for the smart world of to-day. Its fron-frous, its doft little frills bave all disappeared in the craze for straightness and eloseness of sillionette. The trailing potticoat of a couple of seasons back which eroited the wrath and well-murited displeasure of hygienista is no longer eeon English women now follow the cleanly fashion of their Frond sisters, Petticoats are abort, and fall in straight lines whether they are plested or plain. At a dance the potticoat makes an excellent effect when carefully made part of the colour soberie.

HOME GOOD EXAMPLES.

A primrose-yellow gown worn over an orange silk petticoat and primrose satin shoes loads up to a touch of orange in the hair, and is the keynote of a toilet which would suit either blonde, or bruna or outbrown mayde, A very lovely combination in a rather emphatic tone of dax forer blue, and a subtle shade of lizard or
