SOME PROULIARITIES OF THE LENTEN
BEASON.
In a recent book of lemoirs (ays a writer in the Pall Mall) it is related of the late Canon Bull, of Christ Church, who half a century ago was famous throughout Oxford for his excellent dinners, that on one occasion he entertained a party in Lent. Neither salmon nor roast beet were lacking, but at the outset the host apologetically explained: "At this holy season we bere no side dishes!"
In the same connection, it seems worth remem baring that when a General Fast was commanded good many years ago, the bill of fare at a Carlton Club was headed by this note: The committee, taking into consideration that the observance of a General Fast has been ordained, have directed that the coffee-room dianer shall be confined strictly to two soups. fish, plain joints, spring tarts, omelettes, cheese."

Owing to an oversight in engaging the banquetting hall at the Hotel Cegil for a fasting and abstinence day, and the impossibility of altering the arrangements, the Sacred Congrega tion of the Council, by authority of the Holy Father, has been pleased to allow those who dine at the Irish National Banquet on St. Patrick's Day to take meat, If most is taken, fish is forbidden at the same meal. AN IDEAL INVALID FOOD IN HOT CLIMATES.
Henburys
DIET
A PANCREATISED MILK AND CEREAL FOOD.
The "Allenburys" Diet is a complets food, being manufactured from milk and wheaten meal, both ingredients being largely predigested. It is most palatable and easy of digestion, and can be made in a minute, the addition of boiling water only being necessary. Whilst acceptable to all as
a light nourishment, it is especially helpful to Invalids, Dyspepties, and the Aged.
For Travellers by Sea or Land this complete Food will be found exceedingly valuable.
