THE "DIRECTORY & CHRONICLE"
FOR 1910.
A glance at a bookshelf which contains a complete set of the Directory and Chronicls from its first issue forty-eight years ago, gives one an idea of the steady growth of the foreign population in the East. When the Hongkong Daily Press Office in 1863 issued the first Directory and Chronisle of the Far East it comprised less than three hundred pages. Year by year ever since, slowly at first but in the last two decades at a much greater rate, the size of the volume has steadily increased until we have now a ponderous book of nearly two thousand pages and weighing a little over 6lbs, or six times as much as the first volume. The 1910 editio is now obtainable at every commercial centre along the coast of Asia.
