FOOTBALL NOTES.
The surprise of the season was undoubées ? 1. the latest of the Raffy on Saturday by the all-conquering Gunners. The result was the zore remarkable because the Buffs on this vccsalon failed to score a goal, and I think I am right in stating that this is the first-game they kare played in Hongkong in which they have failed to score, The Buffs and R. G. A. are now oven so far as wins go, oath tom having won twice, but the Baffe have scored nine goals to the Gunners' sir.
With the defeat of the Buffs the Gunners placed themselves in an unchallengable position at the top of the League table, and are now winners of the Daily Press trophy for 1909-10, That the Longne champions should be beaten by the Gunners by two clear goals was hardly in keeping with the game. For the greater part of the game Taylor was wall watch by Bagnall and had little chance, but Houckham had his ohance to shine and took it, and, had not the luck of the game bean against his team, CORSAB ·& * 80 N.'S (and Beatley on his top form, he would have had
several goals to his credit. It has been suggest ed that the close play of the forward was to blame for the failure, but my experience has always been that with a lively ball long passing is less effective on a hard ground, as it is en difficult! to gauge the speed of the ball. The defent was simply one of the fortunes of football, and it is to be hoped that it will have a stimulating effect on the Buffa, so that they will give a good account of themselves in the Shield ties,

The dividing of two goals at Kowloon was a satisfactory result, and the improvement in the combination of the Clab quintette was most marked. I am pleased to learn that there is no probability of the two cabs uniting, bat the Club are likely to have the assistance of several Kowloon players who are members of both clubs
The scoring of six goals in the Moslem Lusitano match
wax an sccomplishment worthy of note, as showing that the forwards of those teams are learning to shoot. Moslems were decidedly lucky to draw, scaring the equaliser during the last minute of the game.

Au attempt is being made to fr up an Army and Navy match for New Year's Day. With regard to the selection of on Army team I hope they have better lack with their selection than they did last season against the Civilians. Beazley on his present form in almost sure to be the goalkooper, but the selection of a pair of backs is no easy matter. My selection woul bo Symodia (88 Coy.) and Cloke (Buffs). With Walker (R.G.A.) and Lt. Bagnall (RA.) playing so well, they will probably be selected for their respective positions, and the general opinion that Wren (Buffs) would show to more advantage as a wing half may influence his selection for left half, Selecting amirel forward line is always a diffipalt job, and although it is often advocated that wing players should be in pairs the better and fairer way is to relect them according to their indivi, daal ability, and this being so my choice would be Brewster (Buffs) and Brown (RE); Taylor (Buffe); Nash (BIG.A) and Barker (Huffs).
The molection of a truly representative Navy team with so many teams to saloot from will be ub sinecure. Judging by what I have soen in Naval League and other matches the following team will not be far ont when the names are State Express for published St. Pet'g

he weather continues to be perfect from a cricketing stand point and players are taking. full advantage of their opportunities.
The triangular contests have provided some interesting games the main feature being the tall scoring on all sides. The best partnership has been that of Capt. Baird and S. M. Power -in fact it is the partnership productive of the -largest-sooro this season. Their stroke are not- ́nulike, and when not both batsmen purish the bowling, more particularly in straight drives; both pawned the century, as did also Commander Lewin. The Army and Navy made a draw in the first match. In the second the Clab sempad s win against the Navy. Pearce, topping 80, was best for his side.
All the League pitches were in use on Satur day. On the Civils' Ground, the home team lost to Telegraphs by 13 runs. The latter's total reached 89, and it looked like the champions sustaining a defeat for the first time, but the home team were dismissed for the small score of 76.
The R. E team best the Police by 6 wickets and had the game all their own way from the start,
Hongkong "A" met Kowloon at Kowloon, and disposing of them for 87 reus, Hedred 177 for the loss of 3 wickets. A familiar feature of the match was the fact that sight of the Kowloon- ites were pat on to bowl.
An interesting match was that between the R.GA. and Craigongower on the Craigengower ground, The R.G.Abatted first. Capt. Garnett and Clapham put on 115 runs, the romainder of the side scoring only 15, Usaigongower started with two" ducks," and scored 94.

Telegraphs uce first favourites and will take a lot of beating. They are undoubtally a strong all-round side, with a geed variety of! bowling and a strong batting combination. Up to the present they have not had an opportunity but should the first line of defence be broken of demonstrating tho strength of their tail-end, down it is not unlikely that the tail will wag.- Pardon my mixed metaphors,
but one can't help thinking that Power is a Tho. Rayal Engineers have a sporting chance, power indeed, and should he fail, it is not unlikely they may be disposal of fairly cheap. Their bowling is mediam. Osman's deliverins

Civil Service are much the same side as last year, and when in fall strength should put up some good games. Their strong point is nadoubtedly their bowling. Bird, Brett. Hut- chison, Read and Witchell are a good com- bination:
Craigengower appear weaker this year than lost too many matches to be able to pick up to a they have been for some time, and have already leading position.
