The second chakka was even fastor, but play was very equal. However, Patter in the last minute drove the tall between the uprights,, and the But won by two goals to niki-

The any has to be won three times in muoom- sion or five times in all The Butts won it in March, when their team was composed of Captal Barker, Lient. Crookendon, Lieut Green sha" Lient. Potter, but in May the Civilians (Mears, Ross, Hastings, Gedge, and Dupree) won, and again in September (Messrs. Johnstone, Gedge, Elwes and Dupree).

At the close of the play, Commodore Lyon called upon His Excellezier the Governor to present the cup, and remarked that they had all tried hard to win it, a fast which was all the more to the credit of those who had Bacoeeded. His Excellency said he had much pleasure in presenting the cap to the winners and hopad they would be lucky enough to win again. Hà then handed the cup to Major Eston and valled for three chosen for the winning team. These having been given, Major Eaton called for three oheers for the Gunners, and this concluded the proceedings.

THE REAL CHINATOWN OF LONDON.

COMIC OPERA OPIUM DENS AND

GAMBLING ROOMS..

"China Town," which is hidden away in Limekoase, is frankly amused at its sudden discovery by the London County Council, says the London Daily Express.

John Chinaman has learnt with a chuckla

that the County Council has heard strange tales of gilded opium dens and "fan tan" gambling rooms, and proposes to abolish them all.

The beaming Calestials of Limehouse Canse way wonder if the "raundarins" of the Council realise that "China Town" is the greatest joke in all London.

It is really, as all good Chinamon know, a comic opera settlement, as quaint and proper as anything outside a pantomime, which is ran as a secret show" place for the benefit of curious

foreigners.

The Celestist, whose ways are peculiar and whom snilo is child-like and bland, has long learnt that Westernors love to be "shocked" So John has stage- with unfamiliar sights. managed it beautifully,

Many motor broughams and carriages take sightseers down to Limehouse to view the "Gata of a hnudred sorrows," where opiam is amoked, and the famed "fan tan hells," where pig-tailed gamblers are supposed to losa mauntless taels in a night.

The visitors come with gold in their pockets, and the wily filtle yellow man takes it and shows them scenes from comic opers which haro been carefully rehearsed for their benefit.

NO CRIME. Sightseers are amazed, shooked, and delighted in a breath. They are shown the "black smoke" saloons, the green and purple dragons. the grotesque joss-houses, and the high "fan tables where Chinamen gamble away se much as fire "cash" (forty to the penný) at A sitting.

All this is arranged for the delight of the inquisitive "foreigner." The opium Amokers are resportable ratepayers, who only Indulge in a pipo or two when visitors are about, and the' joss-houses, dragons, and chop-sticks (which may be bought by Bouvenir-seekers) are simply so many stage properties.
