SEVENTH DAY,
HONGKONG v. COMBINED TEAMS.
The seventh day of the meeting was devoted to a match between Hongkong, as interport champions, and combined team drawn from the Stralia and Shanghal. Hongkong were with out the services of Captain Baird, who was suffering from an attack of fever, and his place was taken by R. O. Hutcheson. The combined teams were to have been captain ed by Hubbach, of Singapore, but his in- juries made it insdvisable for him to take the field and his place was filled by Brand, of Shanghai. The visitors won the toss and sent in a Straits pair, Granier and Eddie, to face the bowling of Olivor and Bird. The home team had not their fall complement to start, but Lambe and Brand with a "boy" fielded until the arrival of Tarner, Hutcheson and Edwards. The commencement was not suspicious. Eddie was caught in the second over by Bird, and Barrett, who snooeeded him, was out in the same way after making six. 24-2-6. The score rose slowly to 85, at which Oliver caught Anderson. 85-3-27, Clarke took the willow and established the second Straits combination, which was soon dissolved by Garett making a clever left-handed catch in the alipe. 39-4-1. Clarke's place was taken by another Straits man, Zehnder, who hit out vigorously and contributed to the first century, which was signalled at 11.30. Immediately afterwards he

Anderson's ex over was rather expensive, Maundrell hitting two fours and Oliver one, while he also snosked a single. This indased a change of bowling and Grenier essayed the trundling, and his second bell being lifted by Oliver was held by Eddis at mid-off. 157-6-18. Hutcheson appeared for the first time at the meeting, hat did not stay long, being caught on outting his second ball by Brand. 157-7-0. Green got four out of his second ball; but Hennessy bowled him 161-8-4 in the first throw of his over. Bagnall succeeded Green, and the sombination ot about punishing the bowling. Among points touched upon in the annual report of Lloyd's Register is the continued growth in the number of vessels employed to carry refrigerated cargoes. The total capacity of the steamers engaged in the trade is now no less then 12,750,000 cases of mutton. Note is also made of the increasing extent to which wireless telegraph and submarine signalling aro being used in passenger steamers. There are, it appears, recorded in Lloyd's Register book at the present time 404 vessels fitted with wire lear telegraph and 362 utted with submarine signalling apparatus. The figures afford plain proof that shipowners are not elow in trailing themselves of inventions.
